JOB DESCRIPTION NARRATIVE: Will be expected to service, repair and maintain the districts fleet of buses, light vehicles, and equipment. May also require bus driving when necessary. It is also critical that a mechanic be able to get along with people and follow directions. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge: Must be a high school graduate and a minimum of two years experience as a line mechanic or similar training. Valid CDL with P&S endorsements preferred. Skills: Must be able to read and understand service manuals as well as be able to repair heavy vehicles. Prefer employee to have a high mechanical aptitude. Must be dependable. Machines/Equipment: Able to weld, operate drills, presses, jacks, air tools, tractors and mowers, & other required tools. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Primary: • Maintain and repair school buses both diesel and gasoline • Maintain and repair school cars and other vehicles • Maintain and repair school mowers and equipment • Be able to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems on all district vehicles • Should have a working knowledge of brakes, front end, exhaust, suspension systems for all district vehicles • Must maintain the districts vehicle to meet or exceed all state safety requirements • Be able to respond to any emergency situation concerning district vehicles • Must maintain adequate records and be able to follow directions Secondary: • Be a licensed and trained bus driver in the state of Oklahoma • Be able to drive a bus route when needed • Be able to perform light body work and painting • Be able to service automotive air conditioning system • Be willing to service and fuel district vehicles • Be able to keep a clean work area and participate in any safety training. • Other duties as assigned by supervisor SUPERVISOR: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION Approved by Board of Education on 4-12-07; Revised on 9-11-14 WORK SCHEDULE Days: 243 - 8 hrs/day +12 paid holidays Hours: a. Maintenance Mechanic - Full Time

Position Summary Performs a variety of general electrical, mechanical, and preventive maintenance as well as inspections, servicing, repairs and/or installation of equipment. Position Accountabilities Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Performs minor repairs on electrical equipment, machinery, and the buildings and facilities; including painting, carpentry, plumbing, or electrical power. Repairs woodwork using carpentry tools. Prepares paint and applies to various structures. Uses plaster and brick to repair and maintain buildings and facilities. Performs maintenance, repair, or replacement of broken parts. Caulks leaks, opens clogged drains. Removes snow using snow removal power equipment or shovel. Maintains driveways and parking lots. Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies. Coordinates preventative maintenance with emergency and repair work Checks and replaces broken electrical switches and makes other electrical repairs. Operates and maintains boilers; observes various meters and gauges and takes appropriate action for safe operation. Cleans inside of boiler walls and repairs and/or replaces broken or worn parts. Insure proper function of life safety equipment such as emergency lights, exit lights and extinguishers. Inspects and operates refrigeration, cooling, and air conditioning systems and equipment to ensure all are functioning properly. Inspects and performs safety tests on electrical lighting, emergency generators, alarm systems, communication system, medical equipment and HVAC system. Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. JOB SUMMARY This position performs duties in support of the maintenance of university buildings and facilities. MAJOR DUTIES Assists in the maintenance and repair of Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Conveyance, and Life Safety systems associated with University buildings and other facilities. Assists in the repair and maintenance of Building exteriors and interiors, including, but not limited to, roofs, windows, doors and flooring. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Assists other personnel in the performance of repair and maintenance tasks as needed. Maintains assigned tools and equipment. Performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical maintenance and repair. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Skill in diagnostic troubleshooting. Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles and equipment. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Building Mechanic Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include building codes and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of related building maintenance duties. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to assist in building repair and maintenance duties. Success in this position results in safe and well-maintained buildings. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed in an office or stockroom, in a variety of university buildings, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Annual salary $28,188.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
