About this Position Develop and maintain OSU Stillwater campus chilled water, hot water, and steam system models using modeling software. Be a project manager and perform design work on campus chilled water, hot water, and steam systems, and review drawings and applications from outside sources to determine acceptability with OSU specifications. Develop OSU design guidelines for chilled water, hot water, and steam systems. Provide guidance on established engineering practices, procedures and technical direction to other engineers as needed. Requires strong analytical skills and the ability to pay meticulous attention to detail is required. Must demonstrate solid professional ethics and possess a sound capacity to follow through on tasks. Due to communication expectations of the position, the incumbent will be required to maintain a personal cell phone for communication during normal working hours. Must work safely, adhere to all safety requirements, and promote a safe work environment. Work conditions include exposure to construction areas, laboratory areas, industrial plants, and mechanical rooms – of which all could be deemed hazardous. Work takes place both in an office and in the field. Employee must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.) These items are provided and not for personal use. Requires periodic travel throughout the OSU Stillwater campus: to job sites for training, classes, and meetings, and occasionally off campus to vendors, manufacturing facilities, conferences, and other universities. Constantly positions self to fulfill the duties of the position, which include work on the underground or above-ground electrical utility distribution systems. Construction sites may include exposure to hazardous materials and systems, including – high voltage equipment, steam and high-temperature water, open mechanical and rotating equipment, high air pressure, open trenches, areas of friable asbestos, and occasional work from ladders or heights; and processes that contain hazardous chemicals, biohazard, and radioactive products. Exposed to extreme heat and cold, working around hazardous equipment. Outside in all types of inclement weather, high levels of dust and noise. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) • Utilities Engineer I - will require 1 year of engineering working experience, including drafting, technical writing, estimating and design. Utilities Engineer II - will require 3 years of engineering working experience, including drafting, technical writing, estimating and design. Utilities Engineer III – will require 6 years of work experience in the practical application of engineering principles. Utilities Engineer IV – will require 8 years of work experience in the practical application of engineering principles. Utilities Engineer Sr – will require 10 years of work experience in the practical application of engineering principles. Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability. • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Utilities Engineer I – will require an Engineer in training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification upon hire and/or an endorsement from a current PE. Utilities Engineer II – will require an Engineer in training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification upon hire. Utilities Engineer III – will require a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Oklahoma or PE license in another state and able to gain registration through reciprocity within one year of hire. OSU FM Leadership program or an equivalent training program certification. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Effective oral and written communication skills. Technologically proficient, capable of accurate data entry/retrieval and learning new software as needed. Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil3d, ESRI, GIS, and KY Pipe. Working knowledge of state and federal safety and environmental guidelines and regulations. Be organized and able to work with campus staff, colleagues and peers, management, and outside contractors. Skillful in basic problem solving and interpersonal communications. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a team environment. Basic understanding of building and life safety codes applicable to engineering work. Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. Preferred Qualifications • Master's Mechanical Engineering • Seven years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
