Responsibilities: • Identifies and leads or works with Reliability Engineering on site M&R initiatives. • Support site M&R efforts. Prioritize the recommendations from the assessment and develop a mitigating timeline. • Improving the level of equipment selection and equipment availability and uptime. • Ensuring effective contractor management is occurring and proper installation procedures and specifications/tolerances are being adhered to. • Accuracy, training, and use of the site Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). • Perform Failure Modes & Effects Analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance where required. • All other duties as assigned. Engineering Development Program Mechanical Engineer Associate Role We have an exciting opportunity at our oil refinery facility in McPherson, Kansas. As a Mechanical Engineer Associate in the Engineering Development Program, you will work within a variety of Engineering groups to develop, implement, and manage mechanical integrity programs as well as provide technical support for projects, maintenance, turnarounds, and special assignments to ensure the safety, reliability, and integrity of refinery equipment. Responsibilities Project Engineering Function (8-month rotation) • Manage capital and expense projects, adhering to the planning system • Develop and report metrics to measure success • Collaborate with engineers and customers within the refinery to meet objectives • Coordinate with Maintenance and Reliability groups for data procurement and turnover • Understand customer needs to develop project scopes • Develop conceptual designs, budgets, and schedules • Prepare bid packages for design, construction, and major equipment • Oversee project cost and schedule control, and prepare reports • Contribute to project portfolio management. Develop specifications and commissioning documents with cross-functional teams • Ensure safe execution of all project-related work. Become a subject matter expert on new processes or equipment and transfer knowledge • Gather and transfer necessary information for equipment and process operation Maintenance Function (8-month rotation) • Estimate and allocate resources for job completion efficiently • Develop contingency plans for potential obstacles • Ensure all work order requirements are met economically • Verify resource availability before job commencement • Improve the completeness and accuracy of bills of materials • Interact with offsite shops, consultants, OEMs, and suppliers to facilitate maintenance work orders • Collect, organize, trend, and analyze data to improve equipment reliability • Provide technical support for equipment issues in refinery operations • Coordinate and analyze equipment-related programs like criticality analysis, condition monitoring, failure investigation, and history reporting • Update and maintain data and specifications for equipment assets • Facilitate and review Refinery Engineering Practices • Contribute to Capital Projects by providing maintenance engineering expertise for hazard analysis, P&ID reviews, and project model reviews • Implement planning and execution of turnarounds and maintenance-related shutdowns Reliability/Rotating Equipment Function (8-month rotation) • Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) analysis and present One Point Lessons • Review, update, or establish standards and specifications for rotating equipment • Provide technical assistance with routine maintenance and major overhauls • Provide technical direction and design input for installation design • Assist with start-up and operation of major equipment • Serve as a technical resource for rotating equipment • Administer a preventative maintenance program under senior supervision • Select equipment based on life cost analysis • Coordinate with engineers and contractors, develop work scopes, and arrange for service technicians Reliability/Fixed Equipment Engineering Function (8-month rotation) • Develop and implement strategies for fixed equipment • Maintain the Mechanical Integrity program using PCMS and RBI analysis • Collaborate with Process, Maintenance, and Operations groups for inspections and maintenance • Ensure inspections meet environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements • Recommend operations, repairs, and replacements based on best practices • Update mechanical integrity documents affected by Management of Change activities • Oversee contractors' work and ensure compliance with engineering standards • Assist with regulatory audits and resolve findings • Review designs and layouts of refinery equipment • Manage schedules, budgets, and quality of work for contractors Qualifications Minimum Qualifications (required) • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field Additional Qualifications • Bachelors degree preferred in Mechanical or Civil Engineering • Experience in refining, petrochemical, or related industry • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook • Be available to respond to emergencies • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position.
