Summary The Mechanical Product Engineer is an advanced skill level position that requires an individual who demonstrates proficiency across several technical and computer disciplines, strong understanding of manufacturing methods, good project management, understanding of designed-to-order product engineering, and demonstrates the motivation to apply their skills in a large capacity at Watchfire. The emphasis on this role is the mechanical elements of product design, which includes spatial relations, fastening methods, assemblies, plastic injection molding, and structural analysis related to Watchfire’s products. The primary areas of focus for this position are product quality, cost, and performance improvements. Exceptional teamwork, communication, time management, data processing, multi-tasking skills, with a sense of urgency are required. General Duties & Responsibilities • Identify with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality teams the established manufacturing capabilities, efficient production methods, quality risks, and cost impacts that will result in the modification or improvements to product designs. • Coordinate with Purchasing personnel to support the effective introduction product changes as it relates to vendors, subcontractors, and inventory management. • Maintain the accuracy of active product designs within a standardized database to ensure they are of current revision. This will include regular communication with engineers, production employees, and quality control. • Achieve cost savings goals by reducing component costs, improving efficiency of manufacture, implementing error proofing measures, creating detailed schematics, etc. • Advise all affected departments regarding the broad impact of product changes (e.g., DCN, ECO, ECR). • Manage projects individually and by leading a team as necessary. Includes conducting meetings and coordinating with other employees, suppliers, and outside contractors. • Communicate with and develop vendors on technical subjects to supply products that meet required specifications and quality standards. • Contact suppliers and OEMs, request quotes, and serve as liaison to outside service personnel as needed. • Assist others as needed on complex mechanical design issues. • Assist Manufacturing Engineering as needed on shop floor automation improvements involving machine integration or material handling. • Regularly attend training on subjects important to Watchfire and stay informed of industry practices and standards. • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, & crouch in and around tightly configured equipment. Occasionally lift and carry 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 75 pounds. Experience/Education • Minimum 5 years of similar work experience with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field. • Proficient in reading/writing/typing in English. Comprehend written, visual, and verbal instructions. Experience presenting information in small group situations. Excellent reasoning skills related to cause and effect. • Strong experience with computers, internet, smart phone/tablet, AutoCAD software (Inventor, Vault) and Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook). • Experience is required with CNC metal fabrication and machining equipment, welding, plastic injection molding, and fixture and gage design. • Spanish language proficiency is advantageous. Process Optimization: • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste. • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues promptly. • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability. Team Development: • Provide training and mentorship to shift personnel. • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback. • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment. Reporting and Documentation: • Maintain accurate records of production data, incidents, and maintenance activities. • Prepare shift reports and communicate key information to management. • Ensure proper documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Emergency Response: • Lead emergency response efforts during incidents. Coordinate with emergency services and internal response teams. Qualifications: • Education: Engineering degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial is required. • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a process manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role is required. Experience in rayon manufacturing is desired. Skills: • Strong leadership and team management skills. • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. • Knowledge and/or experience in Lean Manufacturing methodologies. • Knowledge and/or experience in TPM. • Proficiency in using process control systems and software. • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PPT, Access, Power BI, MS Office 365. • SCADA/DCS • SAP Maintenance Work Orders Notifications • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations. • Knowledge and experience on complex industrial process installations (piping and instrumentation). • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. • Language proficient in English and Spanish.
