Produce and deliver engineering opinions, design reviews, technical decisions, recommendations, and documentation to F&S departments, campus, and other University units under the supervision of licensed professional engineer. Confirm conformance with applicable codes and University Facilities Standards to provide safe, reliable, comfortable, productive, sustainable, and cost-effective facilities which support the Mission of the University. MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: Applicants should only apply if they meet ALL of the following requirements. Cover letter & resume should be very clear how each are met. 1. Bachelor’s degree. 2. Three (3) years experience in engineering design of HVAC, or fire protection, or plumbing building systems. 3. Demonstrated knowledge & experience of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and/or building automation and/or control systems. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: 1. Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution. 2. Current Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois. 3. Five (5) or more years of extensive design experience with large HVAC Central Systems, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems and building automation systems with increasing responsibility of project development. 4. Knowledge of and/or additional certifications in CEM, CEFP, LEED, or additional certification programs in engineering, energy, or facility management. 5. Moderate to strong working skills with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products. 6. Experience using mechanical and plumbing equipment selection software. 7. Experience in Siemens and Schneider Electric I/A Building Automation Control Systems. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Project Design & Design Review (including Construction & Warranty Support). 2. Project Planning Assistance. 3. Continuing Education. 4. Support to other units & campus committee assignments. ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS 1. In this role, you will assume multi-project responsibilities for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and specialty piping system engineering and design for buildings including healthcare, commercial, industrial, and educational facilities. This role is one that can be entrepreneurial and grow into more responsibility via mentoring from more experienced engineers and is supported by a great team of engineers and drafters. It is client-facing and reports to a senior engineering manager, who will also provide mentoring and training opportunities to help you grow. Job Activities: • Prepare accurate HVAC, plumbing, controls, and specialty piping system construction drawings, including specifications. • Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews and project revisions during construction. • Prepare preliminary schematics through final designs for projects, including calculations, equipment selection, and layouts. • Actively engage in and assume responsibility for code research and application. • Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, leading projects to successful completion • Provide leadership, mentoring, and coordination of the production staff. • Assist in maintaining project design budgets and schedules while pursuing quality results. • Perform quality control reviews of HVAC and plumbing design work done by others. • Assist in business development activities, including writing fee proposals and conducting project scoping walks with potential clients. Specific Requirements include: • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering • 10+ years of professional experience in HVAC and plumbing design for buildings. • A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required. • Prior management or mentoring of staff required. • Design experience relative to medium/large commercial and institutional facilities • Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite • Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar • Strong and communicative team player in a multi-disciplinary environment, able to fully lead projects from start to finish. • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously. Senior Mechanical Engineer

Henneman Engineering is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Champaign, Illinois office. You'll have the opportunity to be a part of the mechanical design of exciting, cutting-edge projects in the healthcare; municipal; and higher education industries in Illinois and beyond!
