Manufacturing Engineer II

The Manufacturing Engineer II is responsible for helping to drive cost reduction activities through process improvements to directly impact the overall performance objectives for the company and compliance to AS9100 and NADCAP requirements and/or division. This position significantly impacts Rexnord’s ability in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Assists in determining the operations required for more complex projects in fabrication and assembly of products as well as implementing cost-savings process improvements. Owns the processes - creates capable processes. May be responsible for the completion of assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines. May coach or manage less-experienced team members. Troubleshoots and resolves more complex issues, develops the sequence of operations, estimates time requirements for each, and prepares operation sheets. Identifies, recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters in order to increase efficiency and cost savings. Designs and programs CNC equipment to utilize to full capacity. May be responsible for completion of engineering projects. Designs new line layouts or re-designs plant layout. May provide technical leadership/training and/or coaching to other team members. Major Responsibilities: • Utilizes key mechanical design and manufacturing principles, such as Statics, Dynamics, Mechanical Design, Thermodynamics, Materials and Heat Transfer to effectively make decisions impacting product quality, delivery and cost • Reduce scrap and non-conformances by eliminating waste and variation in all forms • Drives root cause corrective actions to reduce non-conformances • Optimize productivity through efficient, ergonomic and safe work station and tooling designs • Remain current in new Manufacturing Engineering technology, new manufacturing techniques and new equipment. Recommend new approaches where feasible • Lead and participate in Kaizen events based on VSM Roadmaps • Utilizes RBS tools to solve problems and continuously improve. Strives to achieve facilitator certifications in specific RBS tools • Promote and facilitate the use/establishment of continuous improvement tools. • Assist in developing and implementing the lean manufacturing action plans to support achievement of strategy deployment and strategic business growth. • Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist others in solving problems using problem solving tools such as DMAIC • Develop and implement manufacturing cost out projects. • Assist manufacturing and assembly associates to resolve set-up, tooling and fixture problems, special process (heat treatment, plating and welding) and selection of proper tooling and grinding wheels. • Develop, maintain and implement process routings and set-up instructions for the production of parts and assemblies Required Education / Experience / Skills: • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field, Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial or materials. • Experience: 2-5 years of engineering experience in a Materials, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering in a manufacturing setting • Skills: • “This position is subject to policies and procedures set forth by the State Department and applicants who do not meet such requirements will not be eligible for the position”. • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills with all levels of employees and management. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while adjusting to changing priorities and project lists. • At least one year of experience with grinding, turning, and milling machinery • Strong understanding of key manufacturing principles, such as Statics, Dynamics, Mechanical Design, Thermodynamics, Materials and Heat Transfer • Ability to extract critical data and analyze data to make informed business decisions. • Excellent computer skills (word processing, graphics, spreadsheet, etc.) • Demonstrated proficiency in project management. • Team orientated with the ability to influence others without authority • Preferred but not required • CNC Programming knowledge • CAD and drafting knowledge • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt a plus • Travel: less than 10%. • Language: English Benefits • Medical, Dental, Vision and Prescription Drug Coverage • Spending accounts (HSA, Health Care FSA and Dependent Care FSA) • Paid Time Off and Holidays • 401k Retirement Plan with Matching Employer Contributions • Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance • Paid Leaves • Tuition Assistance About Regal Rexnord Regal Rexnord is a publicly held global industrial manufacturer with 30,000 associates around the world who help create a better tomorrow by providing sustainable solutions that power, transmit and control motion. JOB DESCRIPTION Position Summary: This position is responsible for the design, application, and technical support of McGill bearing product, including standard product as well as modified or engineered to order designs to meet customer requirements, analyzing failed product, and other duties as assigned. Direct and continuous interaction with Customer Engineering Groups, Operations, Marketing and Sales is required. Some travel is required. Major Responsibilities: • Provide technical support for new and existing customer applications and troubleshoot existing applications • Design modified standard bearings or special bearing products for customer applications at the request of customer engineering groups or Sales, including: • Design and analysis of bearing performance. • Creating and reviewing bearing detailed drawings and working with production/customers to quote new product and successfully manufacture bearing product. • Review orders and inquiries and assure customer requirements and specifications are met. • Process orders and inquiries using established departmental procedures and practices. • Process planning for new special or modified bearing designs, including: • Providing technical support to the manufacturing process including MRB support. • Consulting with Manufacturing Engineering in a plant environment in support of production. • Supporting outsourcing of component manufacturing as required. • Consulting with Regal and Customer Quality Groups on product reviews and FAI inspections. • Consult with Operations to improve processes, performance, quality and/or costs. • Consult with Customer Engineering Groups and perform failure analysis on products as assigned. • Supports our sales effort for products assigned by conducting technical customer visits along with the writing and presenting of technical proposals to customers. • Amount of travel will vary based on opportunities. • Train Company employees, customers and others in the product areas assigned. • Follow Regal Ethics and Safety Programs. • Follow State and Federal Environmental Compliance Programs. • Adhere to all export, import and supply chain security policy requirements relevant to the position. • Perform other assignments as assigned. Required Education / Experience / Skills: • Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering/Aeronautical Engineering is required; training in various engineering subjects such as mechanical power transmission is preferred.
