Mechanical R&D Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical R&D Engineer Job Description This exciting role supports a new fuel injector program within a dedicated team of engineers. The position involves resolving issues using the 8D problem-solving methodology and engaging in hands-on work with components, including microscope imaging and precision measurement. Responsibilities • Design, develop, assemble, and support testing of fuel injection equipment. • Provide design support for components and assemblies using Creo, including model and drawing creation. • Document components with microscope imaging and precise measurement. • Resolve issues using the 8D methodology. • Assemble components and conduct function and durability testing. • Collaborate with internal and external suppliers. • Interact with engine-level teams and validation teams at Peoria Proving Grounds and Tech Center. Essential Skills] • Troubleshooting and mechanical engineering experience, ideally with engines, fuel systems, or related mechanical systems. • Engineering degree preferred; will consider new engineering graduate with internship OR experienced candidates • Hands-on engineering experience (lab work, testing, validation, troubleshooting) • Proficiency in CAD, especially with CREO. • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). • Experience with DFMEA and APQP. • Familiarity with new product development and test engineering. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with test equipment, mechanical engineering, R&D, test planning, and diesel systems. • Knowledge of powertrain, drivetrain, fuel systems, and fuel injectors. Work Environment Located at the Pontiac, IL plant, this position offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with manufacturing, operators, testing, and final assembly. The role supports a range of engine platforms and offers potential involvement with international facilities. The environment promotes long-term employment focus with ongoing injector and follow-on projects, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of state-of-the-art technical challenges. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $41.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Microsoft based programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, Project, or Visio; (2) Computer aided, engineering programs such as Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD; (3) 8D Principles for RCCA, Troubleshooting, & Issue Resolution; and (4) APQP Documentation to support production releasing components.
