Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to operate and maintain large machinery used in construction, excavation, demolition, and site preparation. Maintenance Mechanic - Summer Employment

About the position Responsibilities • Installs, maintains, and repairs simple equipment and machinery in and around the facility. • Assists maintenance specialties in the repair and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment, machines, and buildings. • Performs start-up inspection of power equipment. • Provides general upkeep of grounds including mowing, trimming, edging, and basic landscaping duties. • Assists in the development of maintenance procedures for proper care of lawns, shrubs, and trees. • Ensures that proper fertilizer programs are implemented for plantings. • Provides general winter upkeep of grounds including plowing and shoveling snow, salting/sanding of walkways, driveways, and parking lots. • Maintains external appearance of facility by cleaning driveways, parking areas, entrances, and disposing of trash. • Transports materials/equipment by hand, dolly, or truck to work site. • May provide set up and tear down of equipment or materials as needed. • Moves and assembles furniture and equipment. • Paints and installs wall coverings. • Performs tasks as assigned through work order system. • Responds to miscellaneous calls from hospital staff. • Maintains time, material, and equipment logs as required. • Expected to be on call for seasonal snow removal and other hospital needs. • Provides a safe environment by adhering to all infection control guidelines, hospital policies and procedures, and applicable codes and regulations. • Performs basic maintenance of fleet vehicles and forklift operation. • Provides security assistance when requested, including responding to security issues. • Performs other related work as required or requested. Requirements • High school graduate or GED equivalent required. • Trade school graduate preferred. • Must possess valid Illinois driver's license and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy. • Must be trained and certified to operate a powered industrial truck within 6 months of hire. • 1-2 years' experience in maintenance or repair shop/service preferred. • 1-2 years' experience in commercial grounds and lawn maintenance required. • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and HVAC preferred. • Knowledge of basic operation of lawn and snow removal equipment.
