Engineering Technician

The North America team is currently looking for an Engineering Technician on 1st shift to join our Taylorville, IL facility. The Engineering Technician provides technical support to manufacturing engineers throughout the design, sustainability, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes within the facility. This role includes assisting in developing layouts or floor plans, conducting tests, and troubleshooting equipment. The technician will collaborate with manufacturing and quality engineers to identify various opportunities related to safety, quality, and continuous improvement to enhance manufacturing processes. Furthermore, this position plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe working environment. Your Impact • Support Equipment Design and Testing: • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers during the design and testing phases of new or existing production equipment and systems. Ensure solutions meet safety, quality, operational requirements, and industrial standards. Assist design engineering for prototype development, conducting performance, and reliability as it relates to Taylorville production processes. • Process Setup and Optimization: • Assist in the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and processes. Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers and Quality teams to implement new methods and technologies. Design and fabricate jigs and fixtures, including poka-yoke solutions, to enhance process reliability and reduce human error. Monitor production activities to ensure efficiency and compliance with quality standards. • Quality Improvement Collaboration: • Partner with the Quality Assurance team to address customer concerns by developing error-proofing techniques such as poka-yoke and designing specialized jigs and fixtures to help minimize production errors and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations. • Safety Advocacy & Implementation: • Actively promote and implement safety improvements based on employee suggestions and hazard identification. This includes installing appropriate guarding systems, optimizing material storage to prevent slips, trips, and falls, and developing visual safety management systems. Ensure these systems are regularly maintained and updated to support ongoing compliance and employee awareness. • Tooling Repair Support: • Provide hands-on support to the Taylorville Maintenance team in performing tooling repairs to collaborate and help maintain equipment functionality, reduce downtime, and sustain efficient production operations. • Lean & Continuous Improvement Leadership: • Champion Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives by generating and implementing innovative ideas. Facilitate brainstorming sessions and cross-functional collaboration to integrate Lean principles into daily operations, driving efficiency, reducing waste, and fostering a culture of ongoing improvement. • Documentation & Communication: • Thoroughly document all safety and process improvement activities using established, reliable sources and standards. Ensure clear communication of changes and enhancements across relevant teams to maintain transparency and alignment. • Additional responsibilities that may be required to effectively enhance and support the performance metrics for the Taylorville initiative. Your Experience and Qualifications • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) • 2 – 5 years of experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment • Strong working knowledge of various mathematical concepts, including fractions, ratios, and proportions • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision with a high level of initiative • Manages time effectively and remains organized in all circumstances Your Compensation and Benefits • Expected total compensation for this role will be $19.76 to $34.50 per hour depending upon job related knowledge, experience, and skills. • Eligible for annual bonus. • Benefits will include the ability to elect health care and wellness plans, dental and vision plans, 401(k) Savings Plan with company match, paid holidays, paid time off, health savings and flexible spending accounts, reimbursement for continuing education, life insurance, and other supplemental insurance plans. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with or near to moving trucks, trailers and fork trucks and near large machinery and equipment daily. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme conditions including temperatures ranging from 40°F to 105°F. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must be able to stand for up to twelve hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES • Perform advanced engineering and technical tasks in support of nuclear plant operations. • Perform independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of technical projects. • Provides in-depth technical expertise to develop, manage and implement engineering activities related to plant safety, reliability, maintainability, and availability ensuring compliance to customer's needs, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies. • Accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work ensuring proper configuration management and assuring that standard design criteria, practices and codes are used in preparation of plans and specifications. • Provide technical expertise and consultation through direct involvement to identify and resolve equipment and system problems. • Provides initial or complete task management of engineering issues. • Recommends equipment, new concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations. • Supports plant design modifications, testing and problem solving. • Assure all engineering products prepared or overseen are in accordance with applicable safety analyses, industry codes, and all regulatory requirements. • Develop, implement and coordinate functional supervisory activities including, but not limited to, personnel, budgetary accountabilities and planning goals with respect to engineering personnel. • All other job assignments and/or duties pursuant to company policy or as directed by management to include but not limited to: (Emergency Response duties and/or coverage, Department duty coverage and/or call out, and positions outside of department in support of outage activities etc.) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical or Nuclear) • 10 years of engineering experience • Demonstrated technical leadership experience (e.g. Duty team lead, inspection lead), teamwork and leadership attributes • Maintain minimum access requirement or unescorted access requirements, as applicable, and favorable medical examination and/or testing in accordance with position duties PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Professional Engineer (PE) License
