Engineer, Manufacturing - 17445 Description SUMMARY: Designs, develops, tests and evaluates integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including manufacturing equipment, quality control, facility management, cost analysis, and production coordination. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Uses Lean techniques to determine process standards and technology required to meet the quality and reliability objectives of finished product. • As required by the business, works with various products, equipment and disciplines to increase production, quality, efficiency, volume and/or environmental suitability. • Gathers, coordinates and applies basic engineering data using established and appropriate or defined engineering principles and procedures. • Develops manufacturing methods, process routes, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization. • Recommends methods for improving utilization of personnel, material and utilities. • Plans and establishes sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization. • Applies statistical methods and mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements and production standards. • Coordinates quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost. • Confers with vendors, staff and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status. • Drafts and designs equipment and tooling from concept to design package, using drafting tools and computer aided design. • Reviews production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities. • Patrols and monitors work areas, examining tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules. • Communicates with management and user personnel to develop production and design standards. • Performs such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct; ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Under the guidance of shop leadership, assist in conducting preventative maintenance and basic repairs on both Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles to maintain GFL’s fleet in safe and continuous “road ready” condition. Essential Functions: • Under the guidance of shop leadership or senior mechanics, assist with the inspection of brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition. • Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance including tire, oil and brake changes. • Active participation in training classes and development opportunities to increase skills and working knowledge. • Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly. • Under supervision, perform DOT, PM, brake and safety inspections on all vehicles. Perform PM and safety inspections. • Complete work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties as required daily. • Complete work as scheduled by shop supervision or higher-grade technicians. • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations. • Maintain a clean work area. • Basic knowledge of Hydraulic systems. Education, Training, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements: • Entry-level knowledge/experience of at least 1+ years. • Willingness to learn more complex diagnostic and repair process. • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations. • Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. • Experience using diagnostic software is preferred. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems. • Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, or the willingness and ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment. • ASE certifications preferred.
