Mechanical Integration Engineer

WHAT THE ROLE DELIVERS The Process Controls Engineer will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing and executing and supporting the DCS (Distributed Control System). Identify and implement Distributed Control System (DCS) improvements in operator displays, alarm strategies, and control strategies. Share responsibilities as DCS and enterprise historian administrator. Maintain, and install DCS/SIS software and hardware. This role will interact significantly with Operations, Maintenance, Turnaround Coordination, Project Engineering and ESH. Additionally, developing and using best practices, train site operators utilizing the Roehm Bay City Siemens PCS7 DCS and optimization applications. This position will be located at the Roehm Bay City, Texas, MMA manufacturing facility. WHAT YOU WILL DO • Provide primary control system hardware/software support, instrumentation, and process engineering/optimization to a variety of field personnel including operations technicians, instrument technicians, process engineering and various members of the operations management teams. • Lead and execute moderately complex engineering projects with minimal supervision. Actively involved in the planning of Control System Upgrade activities for the Roehm Bay City site. • Perform DCS engineering and maintenance ensuring adherence to Roehm policy and procedures. • Participate as a key contributor for the Roehm Bay City DCS system serving as a technical lead as well as providing technical guidance to others as required. • Provide support in the areas of training, troubleshooting, environmental compliance, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and preventive/corrective maintenance, focusing on all areas of advanced process control systems. • Ensure control system changes are implemented in accordance with Roehm Management of Change (MOC) protocols. • Demonstrate significant technical independence, excellent project management skills and leadership in development of control systems applications and safety standards. • Work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision based on full awareness of viability, cost, and other benefits. • Write, update, and execute functional test procedures. • Provide off hours support to resolve control system problems. • Provide loop tuning optimization. • Review requirements, plan and implement advanced process controls. • Data analyzation for cause mapping of production process disturbances. • Evaluate and implement third party system integrations into the DCS. • Lead alarm rationalization efforts. • Support engineering modifications. • Develop and program SIS control strategies and systems. • Configure, test and monitor process interlock functionality. • Utilize improvements to operator displays to maximize operational efficiencies and controllability. • Vet software updates from vendors and assisting sites with software upgrades. • Support the discovery, selection and implementation of new technologies and practices for Advanced Control and Optimization. WHAT WE ARE SEEKING • 7 years or more of advanced working experience in Control Systems in a chemical manufacturing environment including programming and configuration. • Bachelor's or more advanced degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. • Experience with Siemens PCS7 control system is preferred. Prior experience with other DCS control systems including Aspen, Delta V, Honeywell, Foxboro, or other will be considered. • Knowledge of Process Automation including design/implementation of complex control strategies. Advanced troubleshooting skills are required. • Advanced understanding of continuous chemical processes. • Knowledge/experience with process control techniques including basic and advanced control design and turning on major process units. • Working knowledge of primary instrumentation and instrument wiring. • Proficiency with process control content of P&I diagrams. • Experience managing Control System Upgrades. • Ability to perform windows and control system security updates manually. • Knowledge/experience with PHA process and managing PHA recommendation and solutions. • Knowledge/experience with OSHA PSM requirements including Mechanical Integrity. • Knowledge/experience with managing and overseeing DCS related projects. • Ability to develop and modify control narratives, cause and effect diagrams, various forms of control logic, and operator graphics. • Experience configuring 3rd party device endpoints using serial, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus communications. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as work as a part of a team. • Trust and respect - must be able to develop and maintain trust within the Roehm Bay City Operation's team and with technical partners. • Strong commitment to safe work practices. • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. • Project Management experience is desired. • Must have the ability to wear and utilize required PPE due to potential exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. The use of personal protective equipment such as a respirator, chemical resistant, and fire retardant clothing, etc., will be required. • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, may include nights, weekends, holidays and overtime. • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, elevated walkways, and walk, stand, stoop for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds. • Ability to travel up to 10%. Languages: English proficiency required. Additional languages are advantageous.
