JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Perform field inspections during various stages of construction • Review plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations • Perform Rental Housing inspections in accordance with municipal ordinances and regulations • Report violations and maintain files/records • Perform other related duties as required SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: • Extensive knowledge of local mechanical building codes and current construction procedures and technology. • Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment • Skill in prioritizing and executing assignments with limited supervision. Skill in using independent judgment and discretion. • Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: • Michigan Mechanical Inspector certification required OR • Hold a mechanical license from the state of MI in 3 of the 4 following categories for at least 1 year: (i) Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping; (ii) HVAC equipment; (iii) Refrigeration; (iv) Fire suppression OR • 6 years of experience under a licensed mechanical contractor in the performance of mechanical work in 3 of the 4 categories (i) Hydronic heating and cooling process piping; (ii) HVAC equipment; (iii) Refrigeration; (iv) Fire Suppression • Additional Michigan inspector certifications are a plus • Experience in municipal code inspections preferred • Valid driver's license with a good driving record required COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: SAFEbuilt pays competitive wages and has a comprehensive benefit offering.
