Lead Solar Technician

Job Summary: National Power is seeking an experienced Lead Solar Technician. The Lead Solar Technician is responsible for leading, supervising, and mentoring field crews in the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role involves working with various tools and equipment to ensure the efficient and safe operation of solar energy systems. The Lead Solar Technician will work closely with other team members, including electricians, engineers, and project managers, to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget and according to safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: • Lead, supervise, and mentor field crews in the installation of solar PV systems, including civil, electrical, and mechanical scopes • Oversee trenching, excavation, conduit installation, and backfilling according to project specifications and safety requirements • Manage and inspect the installation of DC wiring, module installation, combiner boxes, inverters, and AC electrical infrastructure (including transformer and switchgear installations) • Read, interpret, and implement construction drawings, schematics, and electrical diagrams to guide field installation • Coordinate daily work schedules, deliveries, inspections, and crew assignments to meet project timelines • Maintain accurate daily reports, job logs, and time tracking for field crews • Collaborate closely with site management, engineers, quality control personnel, and subcontractors to address field issues and changes • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and harnesses • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes (NEC, OSHA, etc.), site safety standards, and environmental regulations Qualifications: • 7+ years of solar installation experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory role • Proven experience in civil construction, especially trenching, excavation, and conduit installation • Strong technical knowledge of DC systems (string wiring, combiner boxes, grounding) and AC systems (panels, transformers, grid tie-ins) • Ability to interpret and implement electrical and civil construction drawings • Solid understanding of OSHA and site safety protocols • Strong problem-solving and communication skills • Proficient in managing subcontractors and field labor personnel • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required Preferred Qualifications: • OSHA 30 Certification, CPR/First Aid Certified • Experience working on utility-scale solar projects (up to 10MW) • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive) and Bluebeam for plan markups Physical Requirements: • Ability to work at heights on rooftops and other elevated structures • Capability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain • Physical stamina to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials, up to 75 pounds • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle tools and equipment • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, and maintain balance while working on elevated surfaces • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling • Prolonged periods of standing and walking on uneven surfaces • Good visual acuity to read technical drawings and manuals, and to perform detailed work Work Environment: • The role involves working outdoors on rooftops and other elevated structures, which may expose the technician to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind Compensation & Benefits: • $35.00 - $40.00 per hour. We are looking for a full-time Warehouse Associate to assist the Construction team in maintaining equipment supply levels (ordering, stocking/organizing), receiving, and installation preparation (collecting, organizing and packing the specific equipment for each project). This is an exciting opportunity for construction related logistical experience, resume and network building, and exposure to all aspects of solar installation process. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead warehouse inventory management and organization (includes ordering and receiving equipment) • Maintain a clean and professional warehouse • Lead in preparing equipment for Installations (with support from Solar Installation Supervisors when available) • Responsible for unloading and reorganizing of tools and supplies after installations • Manage detailed inventory management in Salesforce CRM database • Responsible for receiving • Assist with or lead in ordering equipment and inventory level management • Assist installations of solar electric systems with crews of volunteers and/or job trainees • Make equipment pickups and deliveries Other responsibilities may include hardware store runs, answering homeowner and volunteer questions, talking to media and generally participating in activities necessary to make solar happen for low-income families.
