What you will do The Mechanical Designer provides drafting and design support for engineering departments by assuming drafting responsibility for assigned projects, recognize emerging authority at the site, and perform a full range of design work using advanced techniques/ methodologies requiring special qualifications/ attainments/ certifications and/ or advanced training. This position is onsite at our York, PA location. How you will do it • Prepare drawings of piece, parts, and assemblies involving selection of scales, dimensioning, detailed views, sectional views orthographic projects from sketches, layouts or verbal instructions, e.g., Sheet metal housings, etc. • Utilize Excel for macro language programs to improve CAD (Inventor) productivity by reducing or eliminating interactive commands to create repetitious geometry or drawings. • Prepare bills of material and prelists using computerized bill of material system • Proficient at using 2D CAD software in drawing, drafting and design tasks. Can develop complex top-down designs, and large assembly layouts. • Proficient at using 3D Solids/Parametric software in drawing, modeling and design tasks. Can develop complex top down designs, and large assembly layouts. • Proficient at preparing and producing sheet metal designs and drawings using CAD software • Check work of others that is similar in type and complexity to that which is personally performed. • Train less experienced drafters in areas of technical and practice knowledge. • Maintain established schedules and accuracy. • Demonstrate knowledge and use of codes or standards for design applications and conformance as related to job. • Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing processes such as tooling limitations as defined by drafting manual. • Demonstrate knowledge HVAC principles as related to job. • Review project specifications and requirements to assure conformance of design and fabrication of product. • Independently uses mechanical design techniques when packaging mechanical devices with minimum assistance. Responsibilities: Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Design components for simple to moderately complex extrusion systems • Perform design analysis on extrusion systems to ensure performance (i.e.: CFD for plastics, FEA, etc.) • Evaluate existing extrusion systems for optimization of durability, performance, and cost • Consult with Capital Engineers to create requirements and specifications for extrusion equipment, coordinate its prototype testing, and support its installation • Collaborate with Product Development and Process Engineering teams to ensure extrusion systems are delivering desired results for their blow-molded parts • Lead troubleshooting, problem solving, and failure analysis efforts related to extrusion components • Design experiments, conduct testing, collect data, analyze data with statistical software, and compose detailed reports on technical findings • Utilize instrumentation and data collection tools to measure and record physical quantities for the purpose of experimentation and solving moderate to complex problems Core Proficiencies and Skills • Highly skilled in mechanical design using software for solid modeling, FEA, and CFD (e.g.: Ansys Polyflow) • Strong understanding of numerous scientific and engineering principals including heat transfer, fluid flow, material properties, measurement, instrumentation, and basic control systems • Skilled in designing and conducting experiments • Skilled in utilizing systematic problem solving methods (e.g.: 8D) • Very good written and presentation skills • Able to travel approximately 25%, on average Qualifications: Education and/or Work Experience Requirements • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering; other engineering degrees may be acceptable with demonstrated applicable skills • Minimum 5-7 years of engineering experience designing plastic extrusion equipment Compensation Statement: The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States.
