This position is responsible for performing general servicing, preventative maintenance, diagnosing and troubleshooting, evaluating cost of equipment repair, and performing minor repairs to maintain all fleet vehicles in good working order. Ensures SRTA is in compliance with state and federal regulations. Receives complaints and requests for equipment service and makes evaluations; makes road calls to service disabled vehicles; and coordinates and prioritizes Authority work as directed by management. Maintains a safe and organized environment; completes all necessary computerized record-keeping and report preparation. The mechanic is responsible for meeting all attendance requirements according to policy and safety emergency response situations. SRTA is the County Emergency responder. Facilities maintenance both outside and inside and seasonal duties as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Key/Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the York Maintenance Manager. This position receives general instructions regarding the scope and approach to assignments. Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares for daily assignments by reviewing work orders. Works variable shifts, irregular hours and is available for work/overtime in accordance with policy and response to emergency situations. Complies with safety policies and regulations by raising vehicles using jacks, hoist stands, or other available equipment, using a variety of hand and power tools common to the trade, using proper safety procedures, wearing personal protective equipment and complying with safety policies and procedures. Completes all safety training as required. Ensures that Authority vehicles are safe and in compliance with state and federal regulation as well as SRTA policies and procedures by performing preventative maintenance inspections using checklists. Removes vehicles from service when necessary. Performs, but not limited to, greasing, lubrication, inspection and repair of all interior and exterior lights, doors and mirrors. Ensures timely repair of vehicles by completing routine maintenance and mechanical duties, under the supervision of management, on all vehicle system and sub-system components to include but not limited to, engines, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating ventilation and A/C. Completes all certifications to work on all Authority fleet vehicles regardless of their type, fuel or component systems and sub-systems as soon as training is made available to them. Completes training for any newly introduced technologies or components. Controls downtime of vehicles by receiving complaints and requests for equipment service, makes evaluations, makes service road calls to troubleshoot problems and make minor on-site repairs and, as required, contact management to make arrangements to tow disabled vehicle back to shop for repair. Completes road testing of vehicles as required. Keeps operations informed of maintenance status. Preserves written reference and complies with regulations and policies by completing all required paper and computerized record-keeping and report preparation timely and accurately. Maintains technical knowledge/skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing and interpreting service and instruction manuals, completing all certifications/recertification to work on all Authority fleet vehicles regardless of their type, fuel or component systems and sub-systems as soon as training is made available. Also completes all training for any newly introduced technologies or components. Failure to participate or successfully complete certification/training programs may jeopardize classification rank. Some of the Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience: • High School degree or equivalent required. • One- three years of full time experience as a maintenance technician diagnosing malfunctions, and repairing medium-duty vehicles. Up to two years of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of vocational education. • Knowledge of equipment and specialized tools. • Knowledge of medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicle preventive maintenance. • Knowledge of equipment repair cost estimation. • Ability to diagnose and repair medium-duty vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles; demonstrated problem solving skills and complete assignments. • Ability to work independently and with other mechanics as job task requires. • Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours and be available for work/overtime in accordance with policy and response to emergency situations. • Ability to work outside and inside to complete facilities maintenance. • Must possess own hand tools. • Must meet hiring qualifications of an acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with SRTA standards. • Ability to travel for organizational needs. • Must have regular attendance and punctuality. Certificates and Licenses Required: • Must possess valid motor vehicle operator's license that is not under suspension or revocation AND be willing to obtain (if don't already possess) thru our training valid Commercial Driver's License class "B" operator's license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation. • Must possess a valid DOT medical card. (Will send for such if hired) • This is a safety sensitive position subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing. • Must possess Class 7 Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Inspection License. Must obtain within first year of employment if does not have. • ASE certification a plus. • Must possess AC 609 certification. Must obtain within first year of employment if does not have.
