General Description of Role/Responsibilities: • Ownership over all aspects of propulsion and mechanical power transmission design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and validation for undersea propulsion systems. • Design, build, and test devices that transmit propulsion and mechanical power with gears, shafts, bearings, clutches, couplings, and other components between the power source and its load. • Develop technical specifications, schematics, and CAD models for propulsion transmission components and systems, ensuring alignment with project objectives and industry standards. • Perform engineering calculations to assess the power plant and mechanical integrity, load capacities, propulsion, and power transmission capabilities of designed systems. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate propulsion and mechanical solutions into broader mechanical and electromechanical systems, ensuring seamless functionality and performance optimization. • Lead prototyping, testing, and validation processes to evaluate the performance, durability, and safety characteristics of propulsion and power transmission components and systems. • Identify opportunities for innovation, cost optimization, and performance enhancement in propulsion and power transmission design, proposing and implementing technical improvements as necessary. • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of propulsion and power transmission related issues, providing guidance to resolve engineering challenges. • Integrate between subsystems and overall system level vehicle design, analysis, software, and operations.
