Mechanical Design Engineer

Primary Activities/Duties: • Responsible for product design including product specifications, material selection, CAD design, and detailed product drawings. • Responsible for enclosure and accessory packaging designs. • Create documentation and instructions for field installation and modification. • Document, perform and interpret developmental tests. • Ensure product compliance with agency requirements (UL, CSA, etc.) • Provide engineering product support that includes technical project management, product build support, prototype build coordination and product cost analysis. • Provide continuous improvement feedback to ensure quality and performance. • Create and coordinate implementation of all ECN initial release or change documentation. • Create and maintain Material Master and Bill of Materials. • Interface with other company departments to ensure effective communications of new product development and continuing engineering activities. • Regular reporting to cross-functional and leadership teams on key project indicators - schedule, budget, and quality. • Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Requires long durations on the manufacturing floor and/or long durations in the office at a computer. Stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach frequently throughout the work shift. Occasionally lift up to 25 – 50 pounds to waist level and up to 25 pounds above the shoulders. Mental Requirements: Work in a fast paced environment, adapt to assignment changes easily, ability to multi-task, learn office procedures and learn and use new software. Must be detail oriented; communicate effectively via oral and written communications with all levels of employees, customers and vendors. Ability to work through issues and seek answers to new requirements. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Safety Requirements: Wear safety-toed footwear, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection and additional personal protective equipment where required. Direction and Decision Making: • Complete directives either given verbally or written, make and assist in determining logical decisions. Relationship: • Direct Contacts: Design Engineering Manager, Design Engineering team members, internal and external vendors and customers. • Indirect Contacts: All other departments throughout the plant. Knowledge and Experience: • 4-year Mechanical Engineering Technology or BSME degree with 3-5 years minimum product design experience. • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD engineering design tools, Creo or Inventor. Mechanical FEA experience desirable. • Creative thinker with an ability to create unique solutions to complex problems. • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing processes for metals including bending/forming, cutting, welding, machining, casting, and painting/coatings. • Knowledge of industry regulatory requirements such as UL/CE/NEC/VDE and performance measures such as NEMA/IEC/ANSI. • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently • Accurate and precise attention to detail. • Strong communication and presentation skills. • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite. • Knowledge and Experience with enclosure fabrication and assembly production methods preferred.
