Mechanical Technician - Medical Device Solutions

Job Summary The Medical Device Solutions team is seeking a Mechanical Technician as a core team member in the design and development of medical products and systems. This role assists in the development of handheld medical devices and medical equipment and contributes to all phases of product design including initial requirements definition, conceptualization, and feasibility assessment/demonstration; detail design including engineering analysis and testing; verification and validation testing and documentation; transfer to the client and follow-on support as needed. Responsibilities • Conducts testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices using knowledge of mechanical components and mechanisms to troubleshoot prototype devices and systems. • Supports/leads design of custom test fixtures and development of engineering test protocols. • Operates machine tools, hand tools and CNC equipment and other lab equipment as needed for custom hardware modification and development. • Supports ideation/brainstorming activities to investigate unusual design challenges by taking new concept ideas and transforming them into tangible solutions. This includes constructing new or modifying existing components, investigating novel assembly processes, tools, and materials. • Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment, creativity and innovation are required to identify the problem and provide input into a solution. Uses experience to recommend a technical approach and to assess its feasibility. • Procures components and fabricates mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies using appropriate industry standards, technical drawings, schematics, and sketches. Provides input on design improvements for prototype hardware. • Design and development of test fixtures and systems, using extensive knowledge of options for instrumentation and data collection, mechanical, pneumatics, or hydraulic systems, mechanism design, basic integration of control circuits, etc. • Assists in preparation of engineering drawings and test reports. May participate in or provide input to written and/or oral presentations to clients, suppliers, visitors, and technical representatives to disseminate information. Contributes to the technical planning of project work. Key Qualifications • Associate degree in related field, such as Mechanical Engineering Technology; 10 years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field. • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain/maintain a government clearance. • Operates lab equipment, hand and machine tools, and CNC equipment as needed for custom hardware development. • Demonstrates the ability to perform assignments that may not be standardized in nature. • Exhibits technical knowledge to perform moderately complex assignments. • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding behind application by beginning to troubleshoot and interpret results. • Conducts specified non-routine analysis of data and prepares data for written reports. • Uses established outlines for documenting results for inclusion in technical reports.
