Quality Engineer

Job purpose Responsible to support the quality requirements for military, aerospace, energy and industrial applications. Quality Engineer supports the engineering team and develops the quality requirements for new production launches and post launch production activities. Insures that customer requirements and compliance are met by developing; program requirements, quality processes, and supply chain. Supports the Quality Management System, leads and supports RCCA process and help drive continuous improvement through data analysis of production processes. Some travel required to support projects and supplier development activities. Duties and responsibilities • Perform contract review for new or revised products. • Ensure that the organization’s Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, AS 9102, and regulatory/legal requirements. • Generate product inspection documentation to ensure compliance to customer requirements. • Mentor and provide guidance to the QA technicians. • Prepare First Article Inspection Reports per AS 9102 as required. • Prepare PPAP packages as required. • Define supplier quality requirements and assist in resolving supplier quality issues as needed. • Support receiving and inspection activities as needed. • Participate in the maintenance of the QMS program. • Perform / Assist with RCCA process on quality problems resulting from Internal Audits, customer returns or production scrap. • Assist with the training of personnel to ensure a complete understanding of the quality tools and processes. • Drive continuous improvement within the organization. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications • BS degree in engineering discipline or 5 years relevant experience. • Proficient in gage metrology, with a strong understanding of measurement principles and practices. • Ability to read and understand product drawings & GD&T. • Proficiency with computers and software programs including Microsoft Office ( Word/ PowerPoint/ Excel) • Experience with usage of inspection techniques and knowledge of statistical sampling plans. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and interact well with all levels of personnel. • Have excellent decision-making, communication and organizational skills. • Be able to manage multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously and have a strong sense of urgency. • Experience with ISO 9001, TS 16949 or AS 9100 Quality Management System Standards. • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control techniques. • Strong leadership skills. • Proven analytical / evaluative and problem solving skills. • Mechanical aptitude. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. • Strong personal organization and time management skills with attention to detail. • Self-motivated with the ability to execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. • Accomplished presentation skills, with ability to effectively present ideas to personnel at all levels within the organization. • Experience with coordinate measurement machines, comparators, smart scopes, etc. • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma. Working conditions • Manufacturing environment. • Some day or overnight travel both domestically and abroad. • Could work in areas with excessive noise or other manufacturing related hazards. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt SUMMARY: Maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on engines, motors; pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, presses and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specification; troubleshooting malfunctions. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. Maintains equipment, parts and supply inventories, by checking stock, to determine inventory levels; anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipts. The individual frequently positions self to operate and repair machines, including underneath and above the machine. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop. Must be able to detect mechanical issues and part defects from short distances to determine what action needs to be taken. They must regularly push, pull, and/or move up to 30 pounds. The individual must be capable of transporting different parts and tools required to do the job. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment. Due to the risk of electrical hazards while installing or servicing, additional personal protective equipment and procedures may need to be followed. Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment such as ear and eye protection, gloves, and steel toe boots. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
