Upfit Engineer

As an Upfit Engineer at our Bucyrus Ohio facility you will help develop configurable custom CAD models, documentation, and truck package layouts as part of our upfit operations. This role will work on the continuous improvement of our engineering processes to provide consistent high-quality documentation to the shop floor with a highly customized product. Communication of design intent, documentation, and troubleshooting with shop floor personnel is common. Some testing and hands on prototype assembly may be involved, along with the following: • Project management of new product development projects. • Creation and ongoing maintenance of detailed piece part, assembly, and drawings. • Development and maintenance of item master, bills of material, product descriptions and routings. • Support sales on bid requests including cost estimates and liaison for design input. • Selection of materials and purchased items falls under the leadership and responsibility of our design engineering department in cooperation with sales, marketing, sourcing and various operations groups. WHAT WE OFFER YOU: • A fulfilling career with the ability to contribute to an Industry leader • A comprehensive suite of benefits • Competitive salary commensurate with experience • A generous 401k match WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS: • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Related Engineering field experience required. • 3-5 years direct experience with using solids-based CAD design tools including basic stress analysis • 3-5 years direct experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably in a low volume/high mix environment. • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency in identifying and eliminating root cause of issues • Organizational, detail, and follow-up skills. • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people without authority and get results through others. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong team player. • Experience with hydraulically driven equipment and electrical control systems is a plus. • Willing to travel up to 20 percent to support other facilities and customers. Skills and Abilities Needed: • Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of the service area and perform test drives. • In-depth knowledge of truck components and systems. • Good mechanical aptitude for vehicle maintenance and repair. • Must possess necessary tools to preform assigned tasks. Requirements: • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Legally eligible to work in the United States. • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing. • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
