Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Coldwater Employment Status: Hourly Full-Time Req ID: 27772 ​ ​ Position Summary We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of custom Lincoln Electric Automation equipment. This role is ideal for a motivated graduate or early-career professional who thrives in a hands-on, collaborative environment and is eager to grow within a world-class engineering team. Position Responsibilities • Take ownership of assigned tasks to meet aggressive project schedules and budgets (labor hours and material costs). • Create small-scale mechanical layouts, 3D models, and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks. • Verify that every design fully complies with the customer purchase order, quoted scope, and internal specifications. • Update design packages to reflect “as-built” configurations for critical components and ensure accurate records for future service and spares. • Support the creation and maintenance of digital service manuals and ISO-compliant documentation. • Occasionally assist with equipment installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting at customer sites (domestic travel 10%). • Work under the guidance of senior designers or project engineers while progressively taking on more independence. • Participate in cross-functional assignments (2–4 months) in manufacturing, service, or applications engineering to broaden company knowledge. • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and special projects that align with strategic company goals. Essential Skills and Experience Required Qualifications • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field. • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks strongly preferred (other packages such as Inventor or Creo considered). • 0–2 years of relevant experience (co-op, internship, or academic projects involving machine design are highly valued). • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, specifications, and weldment/fabrication details. • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Excellent attention to detail, time-management skills, and a proactive “get-it-done” attitude. • Alignment with Lincoln Electric’s core values: Trust, Respect, Integrity, Customer Focus, and Innovation. Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills • Exposure to automation, robotic welding systems, material handling equipment, or structural steel design. • Basic knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems, machined components, or sheet metal design. • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault). • Experience creating or maintaining bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change notices (ECNs).
