Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities : • Work with Operations/Process/Project Management Teams in development of Capex Projects through Scope, Estimations, Specifications, Control Narratives & Conceptual Design. • Contributes as subject area resource in a variety of mechanical engineering areas providing support for systems design, engineering reviews, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement. • Reviews and approves work of outside engineering consultants including flow diagrams, general arrangement drawings, specifications, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, as-built drawings and manuals. • Prepare basic design drawings, specifications, and operating instructions. • Meet Carmeuse expectations with a focus on safety, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and value engineering. • Direct and coordinate any internal and external resources under his/her control. • Assist with troubleshooting and performance enhancements of mechanical systems and recommend cost effective solutions and repairs. • Interact effectively with plant team members, process engineers, and project managers to achieve goals. • Other related responsibilities as assigned. Required Knowledge & Skills : • Able to design or troubleshoot systems that use mechanical equipment including belt and screw conveyors, bucket elevators, pneumatic conveying systems, crushers, screens, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, gearboxes, fans, blowers, pumps among others. • Design, operation and maintenance of rotary or vertical lime kilns, mills, crushers, screens, coolers, dust collectors, silos and other lime and stone production related equipment. • Understanding of various codes and regulations such as NFPA, MSHA, CEMA, AISC, OSHA etc. • Strong mechanical engineering skills. (Electrical and Civil engineering cross-training is a plus) with enough learning agility to continuously update these skills and build expertise. • Project scheduling and basic accounting principles. • Possesses a safety focus and proactive attitude towards mine and plant safety. • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. • SAP or ability to learn the system as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, and design and modelling software similar to AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks or Revit, AggFlow • Excellent personnel skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external customers and contractors, both verbally and in writing. • Highly motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision in a multi-task, dynamic, multi-national, and diverse team environment taking initiative to propose solutions. • Ability to complete conceptual designs, layouts, write specification and construction scopes, RFQs, and complete bid evaluations • Ability to work closely with plant managers, staff members, supervisors, team leaders, hourly associates, contractors, and federal/state regulators. • Strong quantitative problem solving and time management skills. • Ability to understand and effectively communicate using engineering drawings and sketches. • Ability to travel by air and/or car (driver’s license required) up to 25% domestically with some international travel as well which could include extended assignments during critical construction and start-up periods. • Detail and process oriented with excellent win/win problem resolution abilities and effective decision making. Basic Requirements : • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, or other disciplines with pertinent experience i.e. Mining, Industrial. • 8+ years project engineering experience in a multi-disciplinary approach within an industrial environment, preferably in the lime, cement or mining. • Fluency in spoken and written English. • Proven track record of achieving timely results and while maintaining a safe work environment. Maintenance Mechanical Technician

About the position Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanical Technician at our Toledo, OH HBI location. The Maintenance Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing mechanical maintenance on processing plant equipment, requiring full craftsman skill. This position works with and assists other crafts and Operators in the repair of fixed plant assets including unplanned and preventative maintenance activities. The technician will safely and competently perform repairs on a wide variety of equipment, piping, pumps, process fans, motors, hydraulic systems, compressors, ventilation fans, air receivers, conveyor installations, chutes, etc., in both inside and outdoor applications in a continuous operating environment. Responsibilities include erecting, inspecting, dismantling, overhauling, cleaning, servicing, repairing, adjusting, testing, assembling, and lubricating machinery and equipment. The role also involves performing rebuilds of rotating equipment, including setting bearings to manufacturer tolerances and performing drive train alignment using laser alignment tools. The technician will read, understand, and execute work based on work orders, standard jobs, blueprints, sketches, maintenance manuals, and other documents related to the Engineering specifications. They will receive verbal and/or written instructions from Supervision in the form of work orders, permits to work, hot work, confined space, and isolation procedures to safely complete work, including paperwork, and feedback to Supervision on execution of tasks. Basic welding skills are required, and the technician should be willing and interested in learning additional skills beyond traditional mechanic skills to become a cross-functional crafts-person. Troubleshooting is a key part of the role, where the technician will identify and select the correct tools and materials for ad-hoc or unplanned maintenance activities. They will provide technical advice, quality control, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and repair recommendations. Understanding the consequences of equipment failure and repair errors is crucial. The technician will also participate in defect elimination and continuous improvement processes, operate equipment for testing purposes, analyze mechanical failures, and determine repairs. Safety is paramount, and the technician will perform basic rigging using slings, chain falls, and other common lifting devices, as well as operate drill presses, threading machines, and cut-off saws as required. The role may require operating trucks, forklifts, cranes, and elevated work platforms to facilitate work, and the technician will work in both shop and field environments as required.
