Job Title: Mechanical, Test & Validation Engineering III Location: Ann Arbor, MI Summary of the Position: The Mechanical, Test & Validation Engineer III is responsible for validating OBD-related powertrain systems in vehicles, performing official OBD certification testing, and ensuring software validation. This role follows an established testing process while also contributing to its continuous improvement. Additional responsibilities include conducting emissions, PVE, and OBD demonstration testing to support certification efforts. Key Responsibilities: • Execute processes for large certification testing projects involving emissions and OBD. • Validate released or upcoming software for U.S. market light-duty gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles. • Plan and conduct tests on gasoline or diesel powertrains focusing on combustion, emissions control, and OBD. • Perform root cause analysis of issues and propose countermeasures in team discussions. • Coordinate and support emissions or OBD testing activities and validation projects. • Analyze test results and create technical reports for internal and external stakeholders, including CARB. • Evaluate software changes related to certification and provide documentation for review. • Present findings and project outcomes to upper management and other key stakeholders. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years of related experience. • Detail-oriented with strong project coordination skills. • Experience with light-duty gasoline and diesel engine control units, particularly Bosch ECUs. • Deep understanding of CARB OBD II regulations and vehicle electrical/mechanical systems. • Proven experience in OBD II monitor development (design or calibration) and testing. • Strong knowledge of U.S. light-duty vehicle emissions regulations. • Proficiency in data acquisition and development tools such as INCA, MATLAB, Python (VBA is a plus). • Excellent technical writing skills to produce clear and concise reports for a global audience.
