Sr. Mechanical Designer

Ascent Aerospace – Inspiring the next generation of flight! Summary of Position The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design of machine tools, jigs, fixtures and automated equipment for the Aerospace industries. Essential Functions • Create complex tool designs for assembly line applications, static/dynamic tools and machines. • Create and/or modify 2D CAD tool drawings that meet customer and Ascent drafting standards. • Perform simple stress analysis for tool designs. • Verify designs from other mechanical designers and provide feedback and guidance. • Identify design compatibility errors and verify all features are of one interpretation, complete and adequate for downstream users. • Provide input on standards of best practices for mechanical designers. • Collaborate with Ascent engineering, programming, manufacturing and quality staff in the development of quality design applications. • Complete designs and analysis within established budgets and schedules. • Present technical design concepts/data to internal and external customers. Required Skills, Education & Experience • BS Mechanical Engineering or similar field; equivalent relevant experience also acceptable. • 10+ years relevant experience. • Experience modeling and drafting in CATIA V5 and/or NX. • Understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard. • Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and D1.2 weld standards. • Knowledge of manufacturing practices: fabrication, machining, and assembly. • Broad knowledge of materials and processing, both metallic and composite. • Must possess a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment. • This position must meet Export Control Compliance requirements, therefore a 'US Person' as defined by 22.C.F.R. is required. Preferred Qualifications • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Perform simple stress analysis by hand and/or FEA. • Experience managing data in a PLM system. • Clear written and oral communication of ideas, designs, and status. • Drive to succeed with each challenge presented. • Ability to work individually or in a fast-paced team environment. • Detail oriented, with excellent organizational skills. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None Travel May be required to travel to other site locations occasionally. Working Conditions • Typically sits for extended periods at a computer workstation. • May access and work in the manufacturing plant. • While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles. • The employee may be exposed to vibration. • The employee is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. • May be required to travel to other site locations during the work day. • May be required to work weekends to meet department and business demands. • Work with safe manufacturing processes and understand that eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area. • Knows that safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area. Mechanical Foreman

Production Engineer

General Statement of Responsibilities: Responsible for providing the engineering support to Plant production departments through continual improvement of machinery and processes. Essential Duties (Other duties may be assigned as necessary): • Oversees development of improvements to existing processes. Coordinates projects between Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance, and other personnel to make these improvements. • Develop capital project objectives, write project specifications, develop layouts, obtain quotations and formulate proposal documents including summary of costs and benefits, project schedule, and spending plan. • Maintain project schedule by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, resolving problems, and recommending corrective actions. • Basic knowledge of setup and operation of equipment and able to coordinate new process development and training. • Write standard work instructions using Microsoft Office products with established templates for setup, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and lockout/tagout of new and existing production equipment. • Develop/recommend quick changeover methods and tooling. • Analyze methods and develop concepts to reduce direct, indirect, and set-up labor. • Analyze, recommend, and coordinate implementation of profit improvement programs. • Analyze material handling (current state) and recommend improved methods and equipment. • Knowledge of work measurement methodology. Assist with development of new or updating existing production standards. • Knowledge of safe manufacturing practices necessary for recommendation and implementation of safety programs. • Knowledge of Statistical Problem Solving principles and application. • Able to interact with other departments and personnel and natural ability to be a team player. • Support the Plant quality systems goals/improvements & productivity goals/improvements within the scope of the job. • Support the Plant safety programs/goals within the scope of the job. • Regular and predictable attendance. • Compliance with Company, Corporate, State, & Federal regulations. Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in an appropriate engineering discipline (Manufacturing, Production, Mechanical, Industrial) is preferred; or a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Technology plus zero to two years of manufacturing experience. Experience: Prefer 1 to 3 years of manufacturing experience. Mathematical - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Language - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, groups of employees, or outside vendors. Reasoning ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
