Applies sound engineering design logic and judgement to create innovative solutions to design problems. Expert in creating proper part CAD models. Creates product structures in PDM systems. Proficient in the preparation of complex design layouts and/or schematics based on rough sketches or instructions from engineering personnel with some latitude for independent design judgement. Responsible for drafting quality in design documentation. Checks drawings of other design personnel for completeness and accuracy as required. Aware of tolerance requirements for proper function of equipment. Performs tolerance studies on tools for proper function of equipment. Utilizes and exchanges expertise of the materials and methods. Applies expertise of manufacturing, production processes, operations, and maintenance practices to designs. Incorporates reliability, HSE and Quality analysis techniques during the design process. Job tasks impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability or operations. Job Description: GENERAL PURPOSE The Senior Mechanical Engineer develops new, advanced, and updated mechanical systems for vertical and horizontal form/fill/seal packaging machinery and product feed systems. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES • Design responsibility for individual components to complete integrated machine systems. • Partner with customers and sales executives, other mechanical and electrical design engineers, manufacturing personnel and customer service technicians. • Research and prepare specifications • Develop and test prototypes • Process documentation • Train other engineers and technicians • Project reporting, tracking and organization • Lead, facilitate, and manage continuous improvement initiatives • Other responsibilities as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited college or university (OR an Associate's Degree with a minimum 15 years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or other technical position). Experience: • Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience with increasing levels of complexity and responsibility. • Experience in materials, component selection, and general machine shop processes. • Experience with increasingly complex machine and/or system design using state of the art CAD and analysis tools (SolidWorks, ProE, or equivalent).
