Mechanic

Summary This position performs routine and preventative maintenance, installs, lubricates and repairs equipment and machinery throughout the Medical Center complex and grounds as directed by the Facility Management or designated leader. Responsibilities (35%)* Works from verbal and written orders, sketches, drawings and manufacturers specifications. (35%)* Lays out, constructs, covers, coats, alters, and repairs throughout the Medical Center buildings and grounds complex using skills in plumbing, masonry, carpentry, refrigeration and electricity. Operates and maintains steam boiler equipment, air compressors, domestic water systems, cooling towers and all related equipment and machinery. (30%)* Performs programmed maintenance, installs, lubricates and repairs equipment. Responsible for materials and solutions used. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Performs a variety of cleaning jobs relative to the maintenance of the interior and exterior of the Medical Center complex. • Rearranges, moves, relocates and stores equipment or supplies. • Operates snow and ice removal equipment and tools. • Assists in maintenance of grounds and parking lots. • Must be familiar and comply with all governing agencies, i.e., JCAHO, MIOSHA, Michigan Department of Community Health, Fire Marshal, codes, regulations and procedures pertaining to the overall maintenance operation such as refrigeration, building, electricity, powerhouse, fire, and safety. • Completes records and provides informational data on a timely basis. • Instructs and/or helps less experienced Maintenance personnel. • Performs other duties as required such as, but not limited to, sign design fabrications and installation. • Uses necessary tools, machines and equipment pertinent to the work performed. • Maintains records. • Performs other duties as required. • MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. • An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health. Certifications and Licensures Credential: DRIVERSLIC: Drivers License Equivalent Experience: Required Education Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Experience: Other Information EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment as normally acquired through 2-3 years experience in the maintenance field. • Ability to interpret prints, schematic specifications and codes. • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis. • Physical Demand Level: Heavy. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 51-100 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% of the workday) 20 lbs. Mechanical Electronics Technician
