Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer - Elevator Systems Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our elevator engineering team. The ideal candidate will combine strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with specific expertise in elevator systems design, maintenance, and safety standards. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop elevator mechanical components and systems using CAD software, ensuring compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators • Analyze and optimize elevator performance metrics including ride quality, energy efficiency, and mechanical reliability • Conduct structural and mechanical calculations for elevator components including drive systems, suspension means, safety mechanisms, and door operators • Collaborate with electrical and control systems engineers to integrate mechanical designs with electronic control systems • Review and approve engineering drawings, technical specifications, and installation instructions • Investigate field issues and provide technical solutions for complex mechanical problems • Develop and maintain documentation for design specifications, technical standards, and maintenance procedures • Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments of elevator systems and components • Support manufacturing teams with technical guidance during production and assembly • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on project teams Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field • 5+ years of experience in elevator systems engineering • Proficient in 3D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD and Solidworks) • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials science, and structural mechanics • Experience with elevator codes and safety standards (ASME A17.1/CSA B44) • Knowledge of quality control methods and failure analysis techniques • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills • Strong project management abilities Preferred Qualifications • Professional Engineering (PE) license • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software • Knowledge of international elevator codes (EN 81, GB 7588) • Six Sigma certification • Experience with modernization of existing elevator systems • Background in predictive maintenance and condition monitoring Physical Requirements • Ability to access elevator hoistways, machine rooms, and pit areas • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally • Visual acuity to inspect mechanical components and review technical drawings Work Environment • Office environment with periodic field visits to installation sites • May require occasional travel to manufacturing facilities and customer locations • Some work in elevator hoistways and machine rooms required • Must be comfortable working at heights Benefits • Competitive salary • Comprehensive health insurance • 401(k) with company match • Professional development opportunities • Paid time off and holidays • Life and disability insurance The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong communication skills and a commitment to safety and quality in elevator system design and maintenance.
