Composite & Mechanical Tech I

Our Rapid Composites Prototype Center department on in Virginia Beach, VA is searching for a Composite & Mechanical Tech 1 to work in-person at 777 Seahawk Circle in Virginia Beach, VA 23452 Composite & Mechanical Tech 1 Virginia Beach, VA General Description: The Composite Technician level 1 will provide direct support of a variety of composite fabrication processes including filament winding, hand layup, resin transfer molding, and basic machining. On-the-job-training will be provided where necessary. Will work around and with complex machinery. Will mix chemicals such as but not limited to; epoxies and curing agents and solvents like acetone, MEK, and alcohols. Will assemble complex precision assemblies. Prepare and document processes and work in a dynamic team environment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Work in a dynamic team environment, able to multitask and learn product required processes utilizing various machine types with detailed operations. • Safely handle and mix chemicals such as but not limited to; acetone, solvents, epoxy, alcohols etc.- formally trained. • Ability to work in close proximity of powerful magnets and magnetic fields. • Reads, interprets and works from drawings with minimal supervision. • Learn the set up and operation of machines such as: manual mill, manual lathe, horizontal & vertical bandsaw, curing oven (table top & commercial), welder (MIG, TIG and Stick), small and large press, ESEM, rheometer, portable heater, part washer, chip vacuum, winding machine, overhead crane, epoxy mixing machine and flywheel assembler. • Ability to fixture as required to maintain tolerance requirements of the drawings. • Ability to operate manual equipment; lathes and mills. • Produce and maintain all parts characteristics according to specifications as well as visually inspect tools for excessive wear. • Fit and assemble precision parts. • Inspect product samples for highest quality acceptance using proper inspection procedures to maintain S.P.C charts, control plans, etc. as required. • Perform minor preventative maintenance as required and report unusual condition, safety issues or defective material. • Protect the safety of self, personnel and facility through adherence to safety standards and situational awareness. • Provide support to investigations of highly complex products. • Provide support to other engineering disciplines especially electrical, wiring, machining and welding. • Performs work within quality standards and by deadline. • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Work Experience Requirements: • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office • Ability to handle and experience working with metal • Safely handle mixing chemicals Educational Requirements (or equivalent): High School Diploma Working Conditions: Ability to push, pull, lift up to 50 pounds in a manufacturing environment. Millwork Engineer (Solidworks, Sheetmetal)

Job Title: Millwork Engineer Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia Job Type: Contract/Full-Time Job Summary • We are seeking a highly skilled Millwork Engineer with expertise in sheet metal furniture design and proficiency in SolidWorks to join our growing team. • The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and engineering custom millwork and sheet metal furniture components, ensuring high quality, precision, and manufacturability. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop custom millwork and sheet metal furniture components using SolidWorks and related CAD tools. • Prepare detailed fabrication drawings, 3D models, BOMs, and specifications for production. • Collaborate with production teams, architects, and clients to meet design and manufacturing requirements. • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety guidelines, and quality specifications. • Provide engineering support during prototype development, fabrication, and installation phases. • Optimize designs for cost-effectiveness, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. • Conduct design reviews, problem-solving, and make recommendations for improvements. Required Skills and Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field (or equivalent work experience). • 6+ years of experience in millwork, sheet metal furniture design, or related engineering roles. • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, drawings). • Experience with sheet metal design, fabrication processes, and material selection. • Knowledge of joinery, hardware, and manufacturing methods used in custom furniture and millwork. • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD/CAM software. • Familiarity with woodworking, metal fabrication, and CNC processes. • Prior experience in a custom furniture, commercial interiors, or architectural millwork environment.
