Job Description AECOM's Mechanical Engineering group is seeking a dynamic, talented Mechanical Engineer for immediate employment to be based out of our Virginia Beach, VA location. The appropriate qualified applicant will be able serve as a senior technical resource and technical advisor for the mechanical engineering team and assisting the department director in an administrative capacity. This role will also work closely with other departments from the AECOM project team/office, including civil, building engineering, architecture, geotechnical, traffic engineers, Federal team, landscape architects, and surveyors to provide value and partner in project opportunities. The job responsibilities for the position will include, but may not be limited to, the following: • Serving as a senior technical resource and technical advisor for the mechanical engineering team and assisting the department director in an administrative capacity. • Providing specialized technical input to studies and design assessments for benefit of clients or team. • Developing study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others. • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects. • Prepares technical specification sections. • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements. • Coordinate scope, schedule, budget in working with project managers and other senior level team members. • Mentoring and providing guidance to junior level staff to assist their professional and technical development. • Reviewing permitting agency/engineering standards and regulations necessary to develop proper project design and permitting applications. • Work closely with other departments from the AECOM project team/office, including civil, building engineering, architecture, geotechnical, traffic engineers, Federal team, landscape architects, and surveyors to provide value and partner in project opportunities. • Participating and supporting site field investigations and construction related activities. • Assisting department director with personnel interviews and resume` evaluations. • Assisting department director with recruiting (career fairs, etc.). • Assisting department director with employee evaluations (performance reviews). • Approving timecards, expense reports and purchase requests. • Performing discipline QC check of work by others (drawings, specifications, calculations, inter-discipline coordination, etc.). • Developing design-build RFP responses (technical narratives, fee proposals, preliminary equipment selection for contractor pricing). • Attending project meetings with clients (project kick-off, CDW/charrette, and design review meetings). Qualifications Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). • Professional experience in mechanical systems design for buildings. • AutoCAD and Revit experience. • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications • At least 8 years of mechanical engineering building HVAC design experience and building development projects covering all aspects of building design including survey, design development, construction documents, construction administration. • Full understanding and ability to complete and coordinate project design assignments with the ability to review team member’s work for quality and recognition of training requirements • Experience serving as lead mechanical engineer HVAC design on a variety of building types for vertical and horizontal engineering. • Demonstrated experience in planning and organizing tasks and teams in a deadline intensive environment. • Experience working in large and/or complex projects/programs is beneficial. • Experience with construction phase services for projects (field reviews, RFI and shop drawing/submittal reviews, specifications, as-builts and record drawings, etc.). • Experience with building HVAC systems including but not limited to chilled water, hot water, condenser water, steam, and air-side systems. • Experience with sustainable design and energy efficiency. • Knowledge/experience with building plumbing systems design. • Experience with Design-Build projects. • Experience with U.S. Department of Defense agency requirements (UFCs, SpecsIntact, etc.). • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently. • Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Additional Information • This position does not offer relocation assistance. • Sponsorship for US Employment Authorization is not available now or in the future for this position. Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $130,000.00 - $145,000.00. On-the-job-training will be provided where necessary. Will lead a team of fabricators requires excellent situational awareness skills. Will work with complex machinery. Will handle and mix chemicals such as but not limited to; epoxies and curing agents and solvents like acetone, MEK, and alcohols. Will assemble complex precision assemblies. Will prepare and document processes and work in a dynamic team environment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Work in a dynamic team environment, able to multitask and learn product required processes utilizing various machine types with detailed operations. • Safely handle and mix chemicals such as but not limited to; acetone, solvents, epoxy, alcohols etc.- formally trained. • Ability to work in close proximity of powerful magnets and magnetic fields. • Reads, interprets and works from drawings with minimal supervision. • Learn the set up and operation of machines such as: manual mill, manual lathe, horizontal & vertical bandsaw, curing oven (table top & commercial), welder (MIG, TIG and Stick), small and large press, ESEM, rheometer, portable heater, part washer, chip vacuum, winding machine, overhead crane, epoxy mixing machine and flywheel assembler. • Ability to fixture as required to maintain tolerance requirements of the drawings. • Ability to operate manual equipment; lathes and mills. • Produce and maintain all parts characteristics according to specifications as well as visually inspect tools for excessive wear. • Fit and assemble precision parts. • Inspect product samples for highest quality acceptance using proper inspection procedures to maintain S.P.C charts, control plans, etc. as required. • Perform minor preventative maintenance as required and report unusual condition, safety issues or defective material. • Protect the safety of self, personnel and facility through adherence to safety standards and situational awareness. • Provide support to investigations of highly complex products. • Provide support to other engineering disciplines especially electrical, wiring, machining and welding. • Performs work within quality standards and by deadline. • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
