The successful candidate will act as our engineer lead for network infrastructure and inside plant designs for projects supporting various customers in the Department of Defense space. Responsibilities • Leads the design of low-voltage and telecommunications systems, equipment, components, and products for various purposes, including commercial, industrial, and military. • Directs activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements. • Utilizes computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform tasks such as creating plans, updating BIM/AutoCAD detail libraries, Visio drawings, and coordinating drawing production in line with project requirements. • Provides technical input for scopes of work and budgetary estimates. • Provides design coordination with multiple engineering disciplines and the project architectural team. • Designs structured cabling, voice and data systems, communications room layout, and building infrastructure for low-voltage systems. • Develops construction specifications and drawings, conduct site surveys, witness and develop field acceptance testing, facilitate contractor coordination, and review contract close-out documentation. • Performs site visits for data collection and evaluation of telecommunications and building technologies systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes. • Maintains Inside Plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber, and all associated elements. • Develops work orders required for installation of cable racks, wiring of the racks and testing required during installation. • Current on codes and technologies appropriate to the telecommunications and building technologies and design/construction industry. • Performs break fix on all Inside Plant cable infrastructure. • Knowledge of structured cabling systems from an installation and basic design perspective. This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary's County Technology Corridor adjacent to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. There is no relocation assistance. Travel will occasionally be required for site surveys or technical meetings. In unusual cases, travel may extend to greater than 25% of a standard work week. Required Education, Experience, & Skills • High school diploma and at least 6 years of experience developing layout and design for technology systems including voice, data, and structured cabling • Strong knowledge of Structured Cabling Systems from an installation and basic design perspective • Well versed in BICSI rules, regulations, and standards • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, industry standards and other applicable codes related to the design and layout of IT, low voltage and telecommunications systems • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Visio for producing floorplans and cut sheets Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills • Bachelor's degree in related field. • At least 10 years of related experience, including experience with data/voice structured cabling systems, audio/visual and VTC, wireless systems (including Wi-Fi and public safety distribution systems), access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems. • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification (If certification has not been obtained, a willingness to obtain certification upon starting position.) • Proficient in Visio, AUTOCAD, and/or equivalent drawing program. • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM). • Relevant experience to planning and designing cable infrastructure that support the DoD environment. • Clearance Level - Must Currently Possess Secret
