This person will lead the site’s mechanical design and engineering team with responsibilities for the mechanical design and analysis of ruggedized surface and submarine electro-optical imaging systems. This person will also provide input and recommendations for Internal Research And Development (IRAD) projects and support business growth by researching and responding to customer solicitations. Essential Functions: • Manage and direct the day-to-day activities of the Mechanical Design and Engineering Group and make individual work assignments. • Perform estimates for manpower and other resources factors for related tasks. Provide tasking inputs to support Integrated Master Schedule creation and maintenance. • Monitor individual performance and prepare formal Performance Appraisal Reports. Facility the technical growth and career development of key team members. • Be capable of executing the duties of a senior Mechanical Engineer. • Serve as a Lead Engineer responsible for the total Mechanical system design of the MIS product portfolio, including Submarine Imaging Systems (Periscopes and Optronics) and Stabilized Platform Systems (MK20 Electro-Optical Sensor). • Interface with customers on behalf of L3Harris MIS Engineering and Business Development. Contribute to technical proposal efforts as part of a program capture team. • Facilitate/review internal and external design reviews, Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review activities to demonstrate the mechanical design meets all specifications and customer requirements. Critically examine new or existing designs to verify that design principles have been correctly applied. • Facilitate/develop working designs, computer solid models and design layouts of complex parts, mechanisms, and optical mounting using MCAD/MCAE tools such as PTC/CREO • Prepare and review design documentation in accordance with contract requirements and/or internal standards. • Oversee/review structural and thermal analysis utilizing classical techniques and finite element analysis to establish the validity of proposed designs. Work with mechanical designers and other engineers to optimize designs for structural and thermal performance. • Oversee/review detail and assembly drawings to ASME Y14.100 and internal standards. • Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Systems Manual, L3Harris Segment/Sector Engineering Process and Procedures, and other standards invoked internally or contractually. • Work closely with Operations to transition new designs to production / manufacturing using establish company processes. Support mechanical system and component alignment, testing, troubleshooting and evaluation. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. • Experience leading technical design teams. • Experience in the design of marine pressure vessels with consideration for static and dynamic sealing, structural integrity and material selection for corrosive environments. • Experience in precision, ruggedized mounting of optical elements • Extensive CREO 3D model design experience, FEA structural analysis experience. • Ability to obtain a U.S Secret Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship.
