What you Will Do: The candidate will be working on the high-pressure turbine airfoils of the Geared Turbo Fan (GTF) family of engines. Tasks will include processing engineering changes to improve the production configuration, delivering development hardware to test engines, facilitating the delivery of hardware to production engines, and support of fielded engines. The mechanical designer will work with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including Project, Structures, Durability, Aero-thermal, and Product Definition. The mechanical designer will also need to interface with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs as well as other departments such as Customer Technical Support, Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering, and Product Safety, Certification and Validation & Development Operations to complete these tasks. Key Responsibilities: • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with supervisor oversight. • Provide design intent to Product Definition for creation of drawings and models. • Generate development hardware design solutions that meet the objectives of the test engines and facilitate the delivery of the development hardware to the test engines on schedule. • Work with Operations to address production issues and evaluate hardware nonconformances to facilitate the timely delivery of production hardware. • Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost, weight, and part life. • Work with our Customer Technical Support (CTS) team to respond to customer questions, review deteriorated hardware, and update engine maintenance manual limits. • Utilize standard work and CORE tools to continuously improve the design process. Qualifications You Must Have: • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) • 2 years engineering experience or an advanced degree • U.S. Person Qualifications We Prefer: • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering • A minimum of 1 year of gas turbine experience. • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994. • Good verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative. • Familiarity with MS Office products, Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines. Working on inter-disciplinary teams, the selected candidate will perform mechanical design of bearing compartment hardware, including supports and housings, rotating bearing stack assemblies, carbon seal assemblies and rotating seal plates/runners, oil distribution systems, and coupling shafts. Mechanical Systems hardware includes a broad variety of components, functions, and engine system interactions. In addition to interfacing daily with the array of internal Mechanical Systems technical disciplines (Bearings, Structures, Thermal-Fluids, Seals, Project, etc), the engineer will interact with counterparts from adjacent mod centers and with systems analysts (Secondary Air, ED&L) to ensure the Mechanical Systems mod center hardware meets design requirements. What You Will Do: • Develop technically sound solutions to design challenges that meet program schedule milestones and meet cost and weight goals.
