Mechanical Design and Prototyping Engineer

Carillon Technologies is pioneering breakthrough optical and RF communications technologies through its ReflecTek, OTenna and HOBS technologies. These technologies will enable affordable direct-to-device (e.g. phone, tablet) satellite communication, low-cost optical communication for homes and communities, and both space-to-space and space-to-ground optical communication. We are seeking a Mechanical Design and Prototyping Engineer with a strong foundation in CAD modeling, a passion for hands-on fabrication, and the creativity to solve novel mechanical challenges. You will play a key role in quickly transforming concepts into functional prototypes using tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and other rapid prototyping equipment. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in fast-paced R&D environments and enjoys working across disciplines to iterate and build real-world systems. Responsibilities: • Design 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360). • Support rapid prototyping activities including 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machining. • Develop and fabricate mechanical fixtures, mounts, and housings for electronics, optics, and RF systems. • Assemble and test mechanical components for functionality, durability, and integration. • Collaborate with electrical, systems, and RF teams to support mechanical needs across projects. • Maintain a clean and organized prototyping lab and manage fabrication resources. • Document designs, iterations, and best practices for future reference and scale-up. • Work effectively with vendors and subcontractors to ensure sourcing of required components and subsystems. • Identify, track, and mitigate risks associated with development and production activities. • Support various aspects of technical project planning, including designs, proposals, cost estimates, schedules and technical interface meetings throughout the program lifecycle. • Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with handling optomechanical components. • Experience with handling adhesives, and epoxies • Familiarity with tools and equipment needed for chemical mixing and handling • Experience with design and assembly of mechanical prototypes involving motors, actuators, and servo motors. • Experience with metrology equipment and optical microscopes. Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechatronics, or a related field. • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and technical drawing creation. • Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, and rapid fabrication tools. • Demonstrated ability to assemble and troubleshoot mechanical systems and fixtures. • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills. • Comfortable working hands-on with tools, adhesives, fasteners, and mechanical assemblies. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate across multiple teams. • Eligibility for DOD SECRET Clearance. • Ability to handle data in compliance with U.S. export control laws. • Travel: Minimal (5%-15%) Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 per year Benefits Include: Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, 401k Match, PTO Please note: This job requires authorization to work for any employer in the United States without sponsorship and the ability to handle export controlled material. Mechanical Engineer

Quanex is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team located in New Haven, CT. The Mechanical Engineer will utilize mechanical/structural engineering skills to address technical inquiries from customers and sales representatives, and to support the Estimating staff. In addition will participate in product development and continuous improvement efforts within the product engineering team. The ideal candidate will be adept at problem solving, comfortable with CAD software and passionate about improving products. Knowledge of commercial manufacturing processes used to manufacture products made of sheet metal, steel and aluminum plate is needed. What You Bring: • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field required • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks & AutoCAD) is preferred • Strong proficiency with MS Excel and VBA Scripts preferred • Experience with manufacturing processes, DriveWorks, welding and lean manufacturing tools. • Design and manufacturing automation is a plus. • PE license is preferred. The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 with potential to earn an annual bonus.
