Sr. Project Engineer, Mechanical

Work Mode: Hybrid Location: Hybrid - Kohler, WI Opportunity Complete project responsibilities for design, specification, review and development of mechanical equipment or systems, and for design of new and existing facilities. The focus is around building mechanical infrastructure such as steam, cooling water, compressed air, fire protection systems, natural gas, LPG, plumbing, wastewater, and other thermal-fluids that support manufacturing processes. It will involve making engineering studies, calculations, and design specifications, and providing project estimate, detail design, procurement, installation, acceptance tests, and performance audits. Use of project management procedures will be required to set targets, measure progress, and report status. On occasion, direction may be received from Principle Engineers or given to a Mechanical Engineer or intern. It requires directing and coordinating the efforts of others in Technical Services or other Kohler Co. groups, as well as outside vendors, manufacturers, contractors, consultants, and engineering firms as appropriate. Specific Responsibilities • Define scope of assigned project and all available options, which are then analyzed before selecting the one to be used. • Develop requirements, plans, and schedule for doing all work. • Perform mechanical engineering studies and calculations required to develop detailed designs. Obtain required design data from existing systems or facilities to verify performance parameters and system compatibility. • Develop conceptual plans and final designs to correct deficiencies or satisfy project requirements as requested by Production, Maintenance, Environmental, Architectural, Facilities Project Management, Energy Management, and Lean Manufacturing departments. • Supervise the development of detailed engineering drawings and provide project specifications. • Prepare estimates and obtain firm quotations for project costs. • Prepare white papers and business cases for proposed designs (ACT’s). Assist other groups to prepare white paper/ACT as requested. • Ability to review and interpret domestic and international Codes and Standards with local engineer’s support and translations. • Experience with National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) and FM Insurance guidelines is required (specifically on warehousing and industrial manufacturing). • Be able to design simple fire protection systems based on NFPA codes and FM data sheets. (less than 20 sprinkler heads) • Issue work orders and requisitions needed to initiate implementation activities. • Monitor work-in-progress to; maintain schedule, coordinate efforts, resolve problems, control costs, and report status. • Ensure performance tests are satisfied, required documentation is furnished, and complete project acceptance. • Provide on-site mechanical engineering expertise and project management of mechanical installation at new and existing Kohler facilities worldwide. This will require domestic and international travel at times up to 30% of work time. • Pursue current technology and developments that will have application benefits to Kohler Co. and will enhance personal performance. • Successfully manage individual project budget from $100,000 to $2,500,000 Skills/Requirements • A B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Facilities Engineering • Five or more years of Engineering experience with project management exposure or training. • Construction related work experience preferred. • A successful track record of engineering team leadership is required. • The ability to multi-task is required. • Good computer skills including familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit or BlueBeam, Microsoft Office, and mechanical engineering specific software required. • Experience with National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) or FM Insurance guidelines is required. • The ability to climb ladders and work on roofs or scaffolding is required. • Occasional light lifting and hand tool use required. • Possess good organization and communication skills. • Possess or pursuit of a Professional Engineering License. • Be eligible to obtain a passport. Shift Available:Second Shift 2:30pm-11:00pm Monday-Friday ________________________________________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: • * Responsible for the mechanical final assembly and/or subassembly operations of medical carts, enclosure and other simple, moderate, and complex builds using various manual and power tool. • Depending on the products being assembled/built, employee may work on an assembly line within a team and/or work independently assembling the product. • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and understand standard and metric dimensions on drawings • Identify quality issues from previous stations • Operate an auto bander • Touch up Class A,B, and C Surface finish • Write up Non-Conformance Material Reports as needed • Troubleshooting and reworking as needed. • Responsible for verifying parts and other operators work to quality standards • Follow all safety efforts in the work center with the consistent demonstration of proper PPE and adherence to all safety regulations and requirements. • Maintain a consistent 5S workplace through consistent housekeeping efforts. • Train other employees as directed by Team Leader to ensure parts are produced safely, efficiently, and the appropriate quality level ________________________________________________________________________ Qualifications Education: • High school diploma or equivalent required.
