Mechanical Inspector - HVAC/Gas (Code Enforcement)

Position Summary Works under general supervision of the Senior Inspector to make inspections to enforce and/or ensure conformance to protocols of Memphis and Shelby County Code Enforcement. Pay Grade: 51 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education Minimum Qualifications 1. Three (3) years of experience in the mechanical HVAC and/or Gas trade industry; OR Five (5) years of experience in the building construction industry; AND 2. High school diploma or possess a GED. 3. Must obtain ICC Certified Mechanical Inspector credentials in Residential and Commercial within one year of hire date, with one of the two within six months of hire date. 4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Performs field inspections according to inspection procedures and Mechanical HVAC and Gas codes. 2. Investigates and answers complaints. 3. Recommends corrective actions regarding code violations. 4. Documents inspection approvals or denials utilizing assigned technical equipment. 5. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed. KSAs 1. Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable Mechanical HVAC and/or Gas codes and ordinances. 2. Ability to make decisions and tactfully interact with disgruntled customers. 3. Ability to perform field inspections and investigations. 4. General computer usage experience and skills. Physical Requirements 1. Must pass a physical examination. 2. Work involves exposure to areas under construction. 3. Must possess the physical dexterity to access all areas during construction including, but not limited to bending, stooping, climbing ladders, accessing attics and walking on uneven terrain. Special Requirements 1. Must have a valid Tennessee “Class D” driver license or secure one upon date of employment. 2. Must possess State Fire Marshal Mechanical Inspector Certification or obtain within one (1) year of hire date.
