POSITION TITLE: B Technician REPORTS TO: Service Manager SUPERVISES: N/A POSITION SUMMARY: Diagnoses, repairs and performs maintenance on alternative fuel, diesel and/or gasoline trucks. Assists and provides guidance to other technicians in repairs and maintenance. Performs road tests on customer vehicles to diagnose problems and/or test repairs. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary. • Diagnoses mechanical problems on suspension, brake system, electrical system, hydraulic system, drive train, engine and transmission. • Performs repairs and maintenance on alternative fuel, diesel and/or gasoline trucks. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, maintenance and repair of engines, chassis, driveline, body components, hydraulic systems, brake systems, electrical systems, suspension systems, wheels, and tires. • Communicates regularly with the Supervisor or Manager regarding work schedules, job assignments, and other shop issues. • Reads and interprets repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. • Completes all paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, clean warranty parts, tags parts, and turns in to appropriate personnel. • Makes emergency road calls to repair trucks, as needed. • Estimates time and materials required for repairs. Interprets and makes repairs using appropriate Service Manuals and on-line resources. Verify repairs are completed correctly. • Keeps work area clean, free from spills and safety hazards. Notifies Supervisor of any unsafe items needing repaired. • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES • Either (1) high school diploma or G.E.D. certification and 2 years of related truck or heavy equipment maintenance: OR (2) 4 years of related truck or heavy equipment maintenance. • DOT Qualifications including Brake Maintenance & Inspections, and Annual Vehicle Inspections. • Valid Class A or B commercial driver license (CDL) • Knowledge, skill and ability to inspect, diagnose and repair suspension, brake system, electrical system, hydraulic system, tires, drive train, engine, and transmission. • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other applicable health and safety standards. • Customer Service – Acts in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner to coworkers. The job requires skills in interpreting diagrams/schematics, utilizing diagnostic equipment, troubleshooting and repair of all mechanical equipment, proper isolation of equipment, and knowledgeable in virtually all mechanical applications and intricacies specific to the Memphis site. This includes some instrument/electrical work limited to maintenance of trailers and ISOs. Performs according to safety policies and predictive/preventive maintenance processes to support the site's business goals and objectives on the plant as well as rolling stock. Essential Duties & Responsibilities with % Breakdown: Maintenance (80%): General requirements: • Perform inspections on equipment as well as buildings and grounds including underground services • Effectively troubleshoot mechanical problems in the field (general mechanical systems, as well other systems including refrigeration). • Scope and plan jobs • Fabricate by reading prints, developing isometric drawings and following engineering standards • Perform job layout, follow piping codes, proper material selection, pressure testing, fabrication, threading, bending, installation for pipefitting • Understand, execute, and follow all procedures in the execution of maintenance activities • Use power equipment (power hand tools, grinders, drill press, saws, press) • Operate Lift Equipment (Fork Truck, Boom Lift, Scissor Lift, etc.) • Repair, install, modify and service all mechanical equipment. This includes but is not limited to rotating equipment including couplings, alignment, oil change, belts, bearings. It can also include conveyor systems, and fixed equipment such as pressure relief devices. • Perform flagging, proper sling selection/use, developing lifting plans for rigging • Test all equipment worked on for proper operation prior to turnover to production and logistics. • Document maintenance work for site practices, as well as for governmental and permit compliance • Provide feedback to supervision pertaining to any abnormal equipment observations, including BU Supply Chain Parts & Equipment Manager • Change oil, troubleshoot, installation, replace seals, or rebuild pumps and agitators • Perform general mechanical routines and troubleshooting (Use of senses (Visual, Audible, etc.) for deducing problems) Addition requirements specific to maintaining rolling stock (trailers and ISOs) • Review Driver reports and address complaints (per DOT regulations) • Inspect rolling stock to 49CFR requirements • Assist drivers in repairing equipment during pre-trip inspection • Identify trends based on driver reports and driver behavior and suggest improvements. • Trailer maintenance includes repairs and preventive maintenance on: lights & wiring repair, brakes, ABS, pony motor, and air pac.
