Maintenance Engineer

Job Function: Serves as primary mechanical engineering resource to paper maintenance team. Leads technical design-outs of known issues. Provides project leadership to new capital equipment installation, retrofits, major maintenance, or reliability improvement efforts. Provides mechanical training to maintenance technicians to improve team member development and skill depth. Provides support to Paper Maintenance Pay for Skills program to assist with training efforts within the team. Ensures that the Paper Maintenance Pay for Skills system fully supports the Safety, Quality, Housekeeping, and maintenance goals for the long-term sustainability of the program. Provides maintenance supervision when needed. Duties and Responsibilities: • Promote reliability growth within the Paper Department by providing leadership in the development and implementation of: • Root Cause Analysis - documenting failures, analyzing repetitive failures, analyzing major failures, training maintenance and production personnel, develop/manage corrective action database, recommend and implement fixes for root causes. • Precision maintenance techniques - developing and implementing standards-based repair procedures, documenting repairs, developing vendor standards. • Preventive maintenance programs - Develop tools and techniques to analyze and develop cost effective preventive maintenance procedures. • New equipment installations - providing assistance in developing standards-based installation procedures for new equipment using best available practices. • Reliability improvements - identify, plan, and implement projects to improve the inherent reliability of plant equipment. • Promote availability growth by providing leadership in the development and implementation of: • Effective predictive maintenance program - developing and implementing a standardized monitoring program including vibration analysis, infrared inspections, non- destructive testing, and other Pdm techniques throughout the facility. • Effective maintenance planning and scheduling - participating in daily line meetings and weekly planning and scheduling meetings, providing vibration and lubrication analysis reports to aid in setting shutdown schedules. • Effective repair techniques - developing and implementing standards-based repair procedures, documenting repairs, developing, and implementing vendor standards. • Promote maintainability growth by providing leadership in the development and implementation of: • Equipment and Procedure Modifications - identify and implement modifications to equipment and/or procedures that reduce the time required to repair/replace equipment. • Champion vendor services to maximize quality, performance, and reliability of equipment repairs. Utilize vendors and OEM's for improving the skills ofmaintenance personnel and for improving inspection routines. • Performs other duties as necessary when directed to do so • Supports efforts to develop maintenance technician team member skills via the Pay for Skills program Experience and Education Required: • Can read and understand both P&ID's and technical manuals • Has excellent data analyzing, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. • Has the ability to think systematically and to transfer knowledge to others. • Has a commitment to training other team members • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, both oral and written, able to work effectively as part of a team • Proficient in MS Office products, Autocad and SolidWorks • Project experience that includes small to medium capital and/or major projects. • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field First Quality is committed to protecting information under the care of First Quality Enterprises commensurate with leading industry standards and applicable regulations. First Quality focuses on private label and branded product lines. We are seeking a Controls Engineer for our First Quality Tissue facility located in Lock Haven, PA. The Controls Engineer specifies, designs, implements, optimizes, and maintains complex controls systems and software programming on production equipment and associated machinery while training and assisting Controls Technicians in solving complex problems. The person in this role will be focused on providing continuous improvement for an asset. Primary responsibilities include: • Observes OSHA and company safety rules and always uses the proper safety equipment. Identifies potentially dangerous electrical hazards and takes immediate corrective action. • Demonstrates advanced National Electrical Code understanding by teaching others. Develop Safety Procedures for installed machines – Lock-Out /Tag-Out for operations and maintenance personnel. • Leads/supports internal Project and Process Engineers, Maintenance & Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, interface, start-up equipment and process controls including electrical component selection and approval, electrical design approval, software assessments & modifications, machine acceptance testing and problem identification and resolution. • Assist Production, Maintenance, and Engineering to meet daily priorities, coverage, and special projects. • Assesses, identifies, schematically designs, and makes complex program modifications in DCS’s, PLC’s logic, HMI’s programs, and drive controller logic to improve individual equipment and overall system’s performance. • Performs high level troubleshooting, in-depth critical thinking, and utilizes all internal & external resources to solve any electrical, mechanical or process problem. Leads & assists others in troubleshooting machinery, equipment, components, and programs including PLC’s, DCS, HMI’s and Drives. • Provides technical and operations training to Controls Technicians, production, warehouse, and other personnel as needed. Shares knowledge and techniques with team members and coordinates the training of new personnel. • Coordinates machine data collection and archiving as well as assists in the analysis of this data. This requires interfacing production and lab equipment to the plant network as well as maintaining and improving the data historian system. • Proactively identifies opportunities to increase production operation performance, then initiates and oversees projects through completion. The ideal candidate should possess the following: • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Electro-Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. In lieu of a degree, additional experience may be considered. • 3+ years industrial controls experience in continuous process manufacturing applications, strongly preferred. • Experience in: • Siemens PCS7 and Step 7. • PLC, DCS, QCS, VFDs, instrumentation and HMI hardware and software programming and troubleshooting. • Industrial control networks (OT networks) set up and troubleshooting. • Proficient in: • CAD software • Microsoft Office • Excellent data analyzing, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication skills to all levels of the organization. • Paper machine experience plus.
