Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are currently hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Building Engineering division at our Elmira, NY office. The Building Engineering Division at LaBella provides complete building engineering services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineering. Services range from feasibility studies and analysis through project design and construction. Our engineers are well versed in new construction, renovations, additions, analysis, special structures, and design/build projects for a variety of clients. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with clients to provide HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs, studies and technical support as required to fulfill project requirements. Typical projects will involve field work, design, and construction administration services. A successful candidate will be able to work well in a team, provide leadership to Jr Engineers, and be capable of developing new business. This position offers the opportunity to transition into a mechanical leadership role for the office. Job Duties • Supervise mechanical engineering staff to develop concepts, strategies, construction documents and engineering reports for new building renovation projects. • Ability to provide mechanical leadership for both large multi-discipline design projects including HVAC, plumbing, process piping systems and fire protection design. • Interact directly with clients technically by completing analysis of design options, cost benefit comparisons, and communicating results to assist owner in decision making process. • Responsible for directing mechanical project team to meet project goals and maintain quality work product. • Manage the mechanical project financial performance and schedule. • Client and Business Development. • Proposal writing to initiate new business. • Maintain client relationships. Overview The Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and high-quality production of passenger railcar components. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, implementing engineering solutions, optimizing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Functions and responsibilities • Process Optimization: • Analyze and optimize manufacturing processes related to railcar fabrication & assembly to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. • Identify opportunities for automation and implement innovative solutions to enhance production capabilities. • Fixture and Tooling Design: • Design and develop fixtures and tooling for railcar mechanical assembly processes to enhance precision, repeatability, and efficiency. • Collaborate with the design and production teams to create custom fixtures that optimize the fabrication & assembly processes. • Evaluate and select appropriate materials for fixtures and tooling, considering durability and performance requirements. • Quality Assurance: • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure adherence to industry standards and specifications. • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to address and resolve any manufacturing-related issues affecting product quality. • Design Manufacturability Assessment: • Collaborate with the design team to assess the manufacturability and assembly of components, providing valuable input during the design phase to optimize for efficient production. • Conduct thorough reviews of design specifications, identifying potential challenges, and proposing engineering solutions to enhance manufacturability. • Work closely with design engineers to streamline processes, reduce production costs, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency. • Design Incidence Management: • Act as a key point of contact for any design-related incidences or discrepancies that may arise during the manufacturing process. • Investigate and analyze design issues, working in conjunction with the design and production teams to implement timely and effective resolutions. • Develop and maintain documentation detailing incident resolutions and lessons learned to inform future design improvements. • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of engineering solutions. • Continuous Improvement: • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by implementing Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma principles. • Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans for manufacturing issues. • Safety Compliance: • Ensure all manufacturing processes and procedures comply with safety regulations and industry standards. • Implement safety measures and promote a culture of safety within the manufacturing facility. Training/Education required • * Bachelor's degree in, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Required professional experience • * Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on fabrication & assembly in the rail/transportation industry. • Proven experience in fixture & tooling design and development of written instructions • Knowledge of materials, fabrication techniques, and manufacturing processes. • Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools (CATIA, AutoCAD, Solidworks). • Familiarity of welding processes and techniques. • Familiarity with assembly process documentation. • Familiarity with quality control and continuous improvement techniques. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint) Safety Requirements • * Shall report all injuries/illnesses to their supervisor that occur at work, the day of the incident • Shall report any unsafe conditions that are identified in their respective work area to their supervisor • Shall comply with all CAF USA safety policies, procedures, and requirements that are communicated to them, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures • Shall wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is communicated and supplied to them • Shall keep their respective work area clean and orderly at all times • Shall attend all CAF USA required training as soon as possible before the start of their assigned work • Shall NOT operate any CAF USA equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts) until certified to do so This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
