Requirements The Mechanical Engineer is responsible supporting the development of products that interface with gas metering products and systems. This position will work closely with systems engineers for supporting new and existing products to ensure that they meet utility and industry requirements as well as internal requirements for cost effectiveness, accuracy, performance, and reliability. Additionally, this position will: • Approve vendor tooling, alternate supplier qualification, and investigate defective product returned from customers. • Conduct design reviews and work within cross-functional teams including electrical/electronic, software, firmware, manufacturing, marketing, quality, systems test, and supply chain. • Development of mechanical devices, environmental packages, interfaces, and adapters used in rugged environments and in high volume electronic applications • Drive continuous improvement activities to support cost savings initiatives and processing improvements • Ensure product design meets desired performance, regulatory, and reliability standards by performing tolerance analysis, prototyping and lab tests. • Generate specifications to define product and manufacturing processing requirements • Provide production support for existing product. Including; first article part approvals, alternate material approval, process improvements, and general trouble shooting • Work in a hands-on testing environment for validation of components, process and design. • Work within the design engineering team for development of new products from conceptualization through production launch. Ensure all aspects of the mechanical design meet performance, schedule, quality, and cost requirements. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. • At least 3 + years of experience with product/component design or 5 + years of laboratory testing. • Ability to analyze problems related to complex mechanical/electrical equipment; evaluate required corrections or modifications, and to arrive at practical procedures and solutions. • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced team environment where you will interface regularly with electrical, back-end software, firmware, and system test engineers on system level design development. • Ability to work independently • Ability to analyze problems in a logical pattern, and then to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • Experience with 2-D mechanical drawings and 3D CAD modeling software. • Excellent communications skills with the ability to prepare detailed presentations to convey technical concepts in business terms. • Excellent testing and troubleshooting skills • Experience with leading continuous improvement activities (Lean Manufacturing, 5-S, Six Sigma, etc.) • Highly motivated and willing to be mentored by senior engineers. • Product testing, validation and root cause analysis. • Proficient skills using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc). • Strong skills with tolerance analysis and GD&T. Additional/ Desired Qualifications • Broad experience with part fabrication including injection molding, casting, powdered metal, machining, and stampings, with working knowledge of associated techniques and tools. • Experience with products for use in outdoor environments, such as utility metering products • FEA experience for problem solving and design qualifications. • Experience using Creo (Pro Engineer) and Windchill systems. • Familiarity with regulatory agency requirements such as ANSI, ASME, UL, and Intrinsic Safety.
