Description: SUMMARY: Strongly hands on, mid-level mechanical engineer to work within the product development team to design and develop new products that will further expand the product line of small-scale laboratory instrumentation, using electromechanical systems. Provide hands on engineering expertise required for the design, assembly, test, and launch of new products as well as support the upgrading of existing products and related systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Design, fabricate, and assemble mechanical subassemblies with some guidance from senior level mechanical engineers. • Fabricate mechanical parts and assemblies using various prototyping tools including 3D printers, CNC lathes and mills, laser and plasma cutters, etc. • Create mechanical designs and documentation using SolidWorks 3D CAD software. • Work with the New Product Introduction group and Production Engineering to transfer new products from Engineering into Production, providing support with documentation, assembly instructions, etc. • Support legacy products, cost-down projects. • Act as a technical liaison to service and manufacturing. • Other duties as assigned. Requirements: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: • Bachelor of Science or higher in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience. • 3 to 7 years of related mechanical engineering experience. • Strong technical problem-solving ability. • Able to adapt to changing priorities. • Good working knowledge of materials and electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. • Demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD or related 3D CAD software. • Basic experience using FEA in the workplace. • Demonstrated proficiency with mechanical design, 3D modeling and 2D drawings. • Demonstrated proficiency with fabrication, assembly, and assembly documentation. • Ability to read/create detailed mechanical parts and assembly drawings and bill of materials. • Strong troubleshooting ability. • Ability to use hand tools, machine shop tools, 3D printers, and laser cutters.
