Controls Engineer

Our Controls Engineer develops and programs custom automated equipment and provides technical support to external and internal customers. They analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations to support design, including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, PLC, and servo controls. Your Role • Meets with Mechanical Engineers, customers, and DT Engineering management to discuss the design and function of the customer machine. • Development of controls architecture for medium single module machines or assist on large multi-module machines. • Program control systems for servo, robotic and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices with minimum assistance. • Ensure the electrical design is functional, robust, and cost effective. • Travels to customer site as needed for install or service (10%). • Maintain project scope and identify scope creep. • Guide electrical technicians in wiring and codes. Support software validation requirements. • Create electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, Bill of Materials, organize release packages, and update schematics with minimum support. • Problem solve with automation technicians, debug software issues, and update all appropriate documentation. AS A QUALITY ENGINEER, YOU WILL: • Work with and Lead teams to understand process variation and target improvements • Interact with cross functional teams and individuals to contribute toward process quality • Articulate values into actions by verbally interacting across the organization during improvement project activity. • Support the operation by identifying root cause for internal problems, implement short- and long-term actions for the day-to-day problems. • Active participation on the Tier 3 and 4 Lean daily meetings. • Based on production schedule, assign key task to the process auditors. • Develop & Implement Quality Management Systems • Perform Capability Studies, Gauge R&R Studies, & Perform Structured Problem Solving • Establish and implement quality product and process verification methods. • Audit and train others on how to perform a quality process audit. • Coach and mentor operators. Show quality criteria, identify normal and abnormal conditions. • Track, monitor and act to internal key metrics (internal ppm’s and scrap). • Active Participation on product tear down analysis for internal and customer returned parts. • Support customer complaints through implementing containment and drive the root cause analysis. • Implement and Maintain Control Plans and PFMEA. • Identify patterns from the internal metric reviews. • Active participation on Lean Manufacturing initiatives. • Experience using Statistical tools to help predict the problems. • Analytical skills, identify root cause analysis for complex problems using structured problem-solving techniques. • Knowledge on running CMM, GD&T, and ability to read and interpret international standards. • Ensure compliance with all housekeeping procedures and all quality and safety regulations. • Basic Analytical skills, identify root cause analysis for complex problems. • Technical knowledge on core documents (CP, PFMEA). REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE SKILLS: • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, production, manufacturing engineering, or engineering technology, or Two year Technical Degree along with equivalent experience. • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time and to interact with outside customer. • Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship for this role will not be provided. PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS • Communication, team interaction and verbal skills • Statistical experience, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, ASQ-CQE, CRE, or CSSBB. • Three years of manufacturing experience. • Experience in quality management, quality engineering, and lean manufacturing. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee would be required to: sit at a desk and work on a computer; navigate warehouse and inventory areas to access components; have visual acuity to properly inspect and discern prints and components; have manual dexterity to handle components; lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
