Job Description: Job Title: Motor Vehicle Mechanic Location: Fort Leonard Wood-MO Reports to: Designated Supervisor JOB DESCRIPTION: The Motor Vehicle Mechanic is under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and receives guidance from the Maintenance Manager. The Motor Vehicle Mechanic performs a variety of major repairs and services to maintain tactical, commercial and transport vehicles. Conducts research and prepares records and forms to reflect essential information. Ensures all documents are finalized and maintained IAW local regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Performs maintenance repair, rebuild, overhaul, inspect major assemblies and determine repair parts for equipment. · Checks and replaces batteries; rotate, repair and replace tires, pneumatic and flush cooling systems. Removes, repairs or replaces engines, transmissions and differentials. · Adjusts brakes, replace windshields, wipers and similar components of the same characteristics. · Performs major overhauls by disassembling, cleaning, and replacing faulty components IAW appropriate procedures. · Repairs components such as generators, water/hydraulic pumps and electrical system. · Performs routine and extensive maintenance on diesel engines, fuel and exhaust systems, and electrical wiring. · Performs diagnostic tests using measuring devices, instruments, test equipment or special tools. · Required to dismantle components for internal examination of damage or excessive wear. · Operates and utilizes an assortment of tools to perform repairs that include power, pneumatic, and machinery such as grinding machines, presses, torch-cutting equipment, jacks and hoists to lift and move large components. · Required to add critical or explanatory notations on completed maintenance documents following equipment repair and testing IAW AR 750-1. · Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: · Must have experience and understanding of vehicle repair, electrical, heating systems and diesel maintenance. · Knowledge of proper use and procedures to manage hazardous materials and hazardous waste products. · Knowledge of the standard tools, equipment and material. · High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). · Must possess a state issued driver’s license · Lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally work outside. Helps develop quality control programs. • Performs job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner. • Develops pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures. Verifies contractor's performance of functional test. • Reviews and approves shop drawings prior to submitting to design team. • Generates and issues the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties. • Verifies deficiencies are corrected and submits commissioning documentation to owners. • Provides mentoring to less experienced co-workers. • Creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products. • Leads, supports and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.
