Mechanical Engineer II

Hiring Department Plan, Design & Construction Job Description Nature of Work: • Provides professional engineering services to meet client requests/needs and to manage the day-to-day activities of other project team members. • Performs a variety of assignments and analyses that impact the Engineering Construction & Design function • Analyzes, reviews and designs construction plans, specifications, and equipment as needed • Solves routine to complex problems and provides solutions, recommendations, etc. • Analyzes potential solutions using experience, judgments and precedence, providing input and recommendations • Impacts the quality of own work and the work of others on the team, ensuring efficient workflows, productivity, etc. • Explains complex information to others, ensuring audience understanding • Provides project management on various multi-disciplinary projects ensuring compliance with contract documents and industry standards Key Responsibilities: • Confer with department representatives to determine and coordinate design criteria for completion of design drawings; advise concerning practical design and feasibility of design drawings for specific projects. • Collaborate with other Campus Facility and University stakeholders; understand and apply campus standards for building systems. Develop engineering designs, construction drawings and specifications to renovate existing building systems. • Prepare engineering studies and reports providing information necessary to develop long range facilities planning. • Plan, assign, and manage workload and activities of professional staff, provide assistance and instruction, assure accuracy and completeness, and code compliance; monitor design staff progress; with respect to adherence to schedules, hours, expended time on projects, and quality of over-all product. • Prepare engineering analysis of project including preliminary design, calculation, life-cycle cost and equipment selections for managing engineer's review. • Verify existing conditions; collect field information. • Perform mechanical engineering design, including but not limited to: heating and cooling load calculations, HVAC equipment selections, HVAC distribution design, hydronic/steam calculations and design, and plumbing design. • Prepare code-compliant engineering design drawings using university and industry standards. • Prepare technical construction specifications. • Exhibit proficiency with Auto Desk AutoCAD software • May review and seal project specifications and construction documents prepared by the technical staff. • Review and approve project cost estimates and schedules. • Manage bid process. • Review shop drawings and related construction submittals. • Perform contract administration tasks [such as field observations, submittal review, prepare responses to questions, supplemental instruction, etc.] • Conduct construction observations and punch lists. • Advise clients on the project scope, schedule, and budgetary constraints; understand interrelationship between these project components and how they affect project viability. • Exhibit understanding and ability to recommend construction/project costs and durations. • Exhibit proficiency with building codes, national standards, and guidelines as identified by the University System related to new construction and renovation of facilities. • Forecast project delivery requirements and required manpower resources. • Manage departmental staff time and project related costs including monthly invoicing procedures. Shift Hours are 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure may be required. Preferred Qualifications • A bachelor's degree in mechanical or architectural engineering • Two years’ experience in engineering, personnel and project management • A valid driver's license which will allow the legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Missouri is required. HVAC Mechanical Worker

The role involves manufacturing/process engineering support with occasional travel. Essential Skills • Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field. • Experience with component replenishment, kanban, and related material handling tasks. • Experience in a new product development environment or related stage gate process awareness. • Knowledge of verification and validation processes and approvals for new product development. • Proven ability to work successfully in a multicultural virtual environment across various functions such as design engineering, purchasing, quality, marketing, finance, and manufacturing operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications • 1-5 years of experience in manufacturing and/or process engineering. • 1-5 years of experience in packaging and shipping processes and related equipment. • Experience in SAP production software.
