The Mechanical engineer will design, analyze, and project manage new products from conception to production and beyond. Responsibilities include new product development as well as product maintenance and cost improvement for existing products. This person is the center of cross functional team coordination, developing and maintaining engineering project plans, schedules, budgets, and costs. What Will You Do? In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for: • Lead new product development of assigned projects. • Create marketable ideas for new and revised products. • Create designs to satisfy the product objectives related to the specific projects assigned. • Develop project schedules for new product development and continuous improvement projects. • Assists in and sometimes drives product requirements • Performs engineering analysis to predict the behavior of a proposed design and resolves design problems. • Responsible for the entirety of design projects and assures that cost, timing, durability, performance, manufacturability, and quality meet project objectives as well as The Toro Company and Industry Safety Standards. • Assist in the development of design and test standards. • Conducts regular design, manufacturability, safety, and serviceability reviews for the assigned areas of design. • Actively participates and coordinates in the development and understanding of customer requirements through direct contact with marketing, customers, service, manufacturing, and distribution. • Support Operations during the implementation of new product. • Support Operations improvements and cost reduction efforts • May provide work direction and monitor the work of lower level engineers, designers, draftspersons, and experimental shop mechanics assigned to the areas of design responsibility. • Works with suppliers to insure selection of application approved, quality components. • Writes project requests, documentation, and manages all activity through release and change management using established Engineering and Development Procedures. • Keeps manager informed. • Supports company Quality Policy by working within the documented quality system. • Participates in quality initiatives and training as needed. Regularly in communication with global suppliers and partners. • Coordinate and hold meetings out of normal office hours with suppliers in different time zones as needed. • Manage project related tasks, issues, and progress with external partners and global teams. • Address and resolve field/ warranty issues. • Support the Technical Service Department through direct customer contact. What Do You Need? To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in an ABET accredited Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical, Agricultural or equivalent engineering program required • 0-2 years experience, preferably in the powered equipment or related industry required (ME I) • 2-4 years’ experience, preferably in the powered equipment or related industry required (ME II) • 5-7 y ears' experience, preferably in the powered equipment or related industry (ME III) • Must be proficient using solid modeling software (Creo Parametric Preferred), Finite Element Analysis, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). • Knowledgeable in Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, welding, and other manufacturing processes • Experience with electric circuits and powered equipment electrical control systems is highly preferred. • Basic understanding of hydraulic systems is preferred. • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical skills preferred. • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Must have strong visualization skills. • Must be able to specify and use test equipment including sensors and data acquisition equipment. • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment. • Ability to utilize project management techniques throughout development. • Skillfully collaborates with cross functional teams and promotes big picture thinking. • Desire to work in a fast paced, challenging, evolving environment with a team-first mindset • Drives issue resolution among various engineering groups to keep project on schedule • Communicates with highly competent written and verbal communication skills. • Collaborates with Operations and Advanced Manufacturing Engineers to ensure successful production launches of new products and complex product changes.
