Mechanical Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Compensation The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. Job Responsibilities: • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work • Provide mechanical engineering functions to support capital & maintenance related projects. • Complete preliminary and authorization level engineering studies, including detailed scope development and capital cost estimates. • Effectively manage projects to ensure adherence to the authorized project budgets and schedules. • Coordinate maintenance and project construction activities to ensure quality while minimizing process-related downtime. • Coordinate outside engineering and contractor resources as needed. • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving daily mechanical problems with the mill’s machinery and equipment. Transfer troubleshooting knowledge to maintenance crews when solving problems. • Investigate and assist in solving chronic maintenance problems. Report root cause failure analysis for all mechanical lost time in given area on a regular basis. • Supervise mechanical crews as needed for project support, weekend coverage or downdays. • Lead safety programs and safety initiatives and ensure that mechanical activities are carried out in a safe manner. • Work extended hours when necessary, down days, holidays, and weekend coverage on a rotating basis. • Be subject to emergency call-ins during the week. • Move about the mill freely (extensive walking, climb ladders and stairs, etc.) and able to tolerate temperature extremes. • Communicate effectively (oral and written) and make decisions in emergency situations. Required Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, pulp and paper science or related field, or the equivalent training and/or experience. Preferred Experience: • Experience in the mechanical maintenance/reliability field preferred. • Prior paper machine experience a plus. • Knowledge of the different aspects of papermaking including stock preparation, coating, finishing and paper machines a plus. • Previous knowledge of Auto Cad or other computer aided design software packages, SAP preferred or other Maintenance Management systems, Microsoft office, MS Outlook e-mail, etc. • Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues. • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both hourly and management. • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as initiative and the ability to delegate decision making and other responsibilities. • Must model ND Paper values and achieve results through safe work practices, cross-functional participation, manufacturing excellence, integrity and respect for others. Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description Senior Mechanical Engineer PRIMARY PURPOSE The senior mechanical engineer position plans and designs mechanical assemblies for automation and robotics projects. This position is responsible for organizing highly complex activities for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of engineering projects in accordance with our client's applicable governing standards. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Conceptualizes and designs highly complex automation machinery, robotic cells and material handling systems, including development and checking of technical specifications, drawings and bills of material. • Creates 3D part/assembly models and details drawings for manufacture per design best practices using SolidWorks. • Manages the scope of work for mechanical design on customized projects, including planning, supervising project work and verifying designs to ensure effective performance of the work. • Supports fabrication, testing and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications. • Provides guidance and direction in technical risk evaluation, functional composition, and interface management as part of the design team. • Provides technical expertise in automation and equipment engineering practices. • Ensures commitments on projects are met including cost, schedule, function, performance, serviceability, and appearance. • Delivers complete and accurate designs within the allotted time. • Supports sales activities including initial customer meetings, design conceptualization, hours estimating and quote generation. • Develops and maintains positive customer relations. • Knows and follows all safety rules, such as safe work practices and standard operating procedures. • Other job duties as assigned SUPERVISORY/ MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES • No Direct Reports MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university • Three (3) years of 3D CAD design (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor, Pro/Engineer) that includes modeling and automation systems design experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET) from an accredited college or university • Five (5) years of mechanical engineering experience in automation • Strong precision machine design background • Experience with specifying Pneumatic/Electric actuators and force loading calculations • 3-5 years of SolidWorks experience preferred • Experience with project management methods, practices and tools including scoping, facilitations, delegation, and risk management best practices. • Substantial knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes such as machining, grinding, welding, hand assembly, fasteners, etc. GENERAL SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS • Relevant experience with fixed automation and/or robotic assembly system concept development and design • Experience working within cross-functional teams to handle multiple priorities and meet scheduled milestones • Ability to accurately estimate the level of effort required to complete a design on time and within budget • Possesses a desire and capability to coach and mentor interns and other engineering partners • Demonstrated mechanical component and assembly design experience • Demonstrated experience in engineered component selection and major equipment specification development • Demonstrated ability to create drawing packages, electronic bills of materials and engineering change orders PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift 50 lbs • Able to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color determination, and adjustment of focus • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear • Occasionally required to bend, twist, climb, kneel, and balance • Occasionally required to use hands to grasp, reach and operate objects, tools, or controls • Occasional exposure to a production environment • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements Reasonable accommodations are made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
