Manufacturing processes may include but are not limited to stamping, forming, shearing, machining (Wire EDM, Machining centers, etc.), laser welding, cleaning, automation and/or measurement. This position will work as part of a value stream team to concentrate on establishing and improving efficiencies in the manufacturing of medical devices. Additional areas of focus may include but are not limited to cost (scrap/labor/setup) reduction, statistical process control/variation reduction, work cell design/optimization, operator training/work instructions and tool/machine design selection or improvements. Other responsibilities will include procedure generation, participation in production readiness/product validation activities for customers, developing and deploying continuous improvement plans for production products. Responsibilities • Take ownership of specific manufacturing processes as they pass through the final stages of production readiness and process validation to ensure that quality awareness and product integrity are maintained. • Lead or contribute to project teams responsible for implementing process improvements and new technologies. • Determine job cost baselines and initiate cost reduction activities. • Analyze and evaluate existing processes, manufacturing practices and systems to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. • Develop or assist in design, costing, training for continuous improvement activities. • Review existing process procedures for compliance to the designed process intent. Modify procedures as necessary and obtain approval from the originating process engineer. • Set up and maintain Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for part numbers, including methods of manufacture, resource groups, part standards, etc. • Provide technical support for process validation activities to ensure a smooth transition into the production environment. • Perform Design of Experiments (DOE's) where process optimization assessment is required. • Develop process documentation and training where applicable (manufacturing process, tool/machine setup, preventive maintenance etc.). • Periodic customer liaison for quality or continuation engineering related issues. May assume project manager role for specific customer applications. • Daily/weekly/monthly of performance metrics. Required Qualifications • BS degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial or manufacturing disciplines) or 2-year technical degree with relevant manufacturing experience. • Strong oral communication skills and demonstrated technical writing skills: able to perform data analysis, write detailed reports, comprehensive manufacturing procedures and assist Quality Engineering with validation protocols. • Working knowledge of MS Office. Preferred Qualifications • Engineers with 2+ years' experience or Technician with 4+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment. • New graduates with relevant intern/co-op work experience. • Prior experience with any of the following manufacturing processes: stamping, forming, shearing, machining (Wire EDM, Machining centers, etc.), laser welding, cleaning, automation and/or measurement. • Lean training, certification and experience. • Working knowledge of statistical software and/or Minitab. • Knowledge of SPC or other process capability analysis for determination of production readiness. • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD. • Working knowledge of Epicor/equivalent ERP • Project management and leadership skills. • Prior experience working in an engineering role within the medical device industry (ISO 13485) or other regulated industry.
