Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer you will develop safe, low cost, and high-quality product designs, product design standards, and design component standards for new and existing product lines through research, prototyping, and team interaction. What you will be doing: • Achieve cost reductions through alternative design practices, component and methods selection alternatives, and product simplification. • Advance technology in an effort to establish ‘state of the art’ in product performance, manufacturability, and customer value. • Apply heat transfer, fluid dynamic, acoustic and other mechanical engineering acumen for design, selection, prototyping and testing of products, components, systems, or sub systems as assigned. • Collaborate with the Materials and Manufacturing groups to select component, supplier, and process alternatives. • Establish technology training plans and ensures that others are trained as appropriate. • Execute project plans. • Identify opportunities and lead cost reduction team initiatives. • Launch technology development and product enhancement/development initiatives. • Propose project scope and deliverables. Education: • Minimum of 1 year post-secondary training in mechanical or architectural drafting using SolidWorks • CAD Programming experience is required. • 5 years of related experience is preferred in a manufacturing environment. • College level training in Materials Properties or Metallurgy, Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials, Calculus and Differential Equations, and Statistical Analysis. Experience: • Working knowledge of CAD 3D model development and model manipulation/animation. • Computational skills involving higher level math including calculus, algebra and trigonometry, and statistical methods including regression analysis and quality charts. • Working knowledge of HVAC equipment operation and design practices. • Ability to read prints and interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing including tolerance analysis. • This position demands an ability to communicate messages and technical information in both verbal and written formats. Maintenance Engineer

Job Description: To maintain a safe and effective environment through maintenance, repair and operation of all mechanical, pneumatic and ventilating equipment. Prevent unscheduled downtime of equipment. Principle Responsibilities • Provides maintenance and repairs to building structures, building systems, and equipment contained therein. • Service, repair, and maintain refrigeration and HVAC system. • Service, repair and install piping, fixtures, fittings and associated hardware for compressed gasses, vacuum, steam, potable and non-potable plumbing systems. • Do electrical replacements, repairs and maintenance of electrical equipment. • Report hazards and/or potential work hazards in our facilities in order to prevent injury to self, peers, patients, and visitors. • Maintain record of all inspections, testing and repairs to comply with regulatory and insurance agency requirements. • May perform emergency repairs on critical life safety and none-life safety equipment which could include patient beds, surgical gurneys, utilities disruption, nurse call, TVs and electronics. • May perform daily rounds in designated areas to assure facility is in good, safe working condition. • May need to order materials, supplies and parts. • Operate heating plant boilers when properly licensed. • Takes charge of the heating plant and makes adjustments to building systems. • Preventative and Corrective Maintenance. • May perform interior preventative maintenance which could include panting, electrical, plumbing, light carpentry and HVAC related needs. • May perform exterior preventative maintenance which could include roof checks, grounds checks and snow removal. • Preventative Maintenance helps prevent possible downtime • May include inspecting, cleaning and changing air filters, including electronic filters. • May provide waste handling and disposal. • Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies • 2 to 5 years of maintenance experience (hospital experience preferred for roles that work in our hospitals) Preferred Qualifications • High school diploma or GED • Vocational or Technical Training in Engineering • 2 to 5 years job specific competency preferred, which may include a variation of skills in refrigeration cycle, electrical knowledge, welding, HVAC, pneumatic controls, digital controls, fire system, mechanical controls & theory Licenses/Certifications • Licensed Operating/Engineer required at time of hire; if working at Abbott, must be able to obtain within 90 days of hire • Licensed Operating/Engineer may be required at time of hire or upon a required timeline established by the department (i.e. AHFSS will require a Special License at a reasonable timeline based on hire date and MNDOLI testing availability – timeline to be established upon hire) for Clinic Based positions • Valid Driver’s License required upon hire - MN and WI residents must obtain a valid driver’s license in their state of residence within 60 days of employment Physical Demands • Heavy Work: • Lifting weight Up to 100 lbs. occasionally, Up to 50 lbs. frequently Additional Job Description: Maintain our highly rated facilities as a Maintenance Engineer with your robust skill set in a 24/7/365 environment.
