The Role KAMP Automation is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer for our Headquarters in Owatonna, Minnesota, to contribute to the design and development of turn-key automated equipment utilizing state-of-the-art robotics, machine vision, and other industrial technologies. The Mechanical Engineer will develop equipment, mechanisms, and process concepts. Candidate will create a robust mechanical system to support the concept, design all necessary parts, and specify the necessary commercial components. They must be skilled in Solidworks and able to generate designs, parts, assemblies, detailed drawings, and bill of materials. The Mechanical Engineer will work independently and with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the project. They will work closely with Sales, Project Management, and Controls Engineering to bring systems from initial concept, through design revisions, and finally into assembly, test, and deployment. Responsibilities • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance equipment specifications, process control requirements, layout complexity, cost, quality and lead-time limits • Conceptualize, design, and debug automated equipment with an emphasis on generating mechanical systems that are robust, maintainable, reusable, and aesthetically pleasing • Create simple mechanisms to automate complex processes • Select and size electromechanical components • Maintain proper documentation using the customer’s and company’s standards and conventions • Travel to local and regional customer and training facilities as required • Introduce automated processes into production, and train Customer Maintenance and Production Teams to support after deployment into production Requirements • Proficiency with industrial electromechanical / mechatronic systems • In depth knowledge of Safety (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA) and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards • Create and document mechanical designs utilizing Solidworks, including detailed drawings and bill of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies, and parts • Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, beam deflection, rotational and linear speed, force, torque, etc. • Properly size and select components, structures, and machine elements • Design sheet metal, framing, and mechatronic components • Create detailed pneumatic schematics in CAD • Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment • Experience designing systems including Cartesian, SCARA and Articulated robots is highly desired (Fanuc, Kuka, Staubli, Epson) • Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence) • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired Qualifications • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent, e.g. Majors in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.) • 3-5 years of experience as a hands-on Mechanical Engineer working on Industrial Automation Equipment Job Type: Full-time Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year Benefits: • 401(k) • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Flexible schedule • Health insurance • Health savings account • Life insurance • Paid time off • Parental leave • Referral program • Retirement plan • Vision insurance Schedule: • Monday to Friday Work Location: In person
