Mechanical Service Technician

About the Position The Mechanical Service Technician provides support to Power Design projects by performing Mechanical work within a specified region. This individual installs and repairs HVAC mechanical systems, fixtures, wiring, controls, and equipment as needed. Position Responsibilities • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance when required, diagnosing and resolving any issues as they arise. • Perform HVAC system start-up and commissioning • Execute initial system start-up procedures and comprehensive commissioning tasks to ensure all HVAC components operate according to design specifications and industry standards, including system calibration, performance verification, and documentation of operational parameters. • Ensure that all work adheres to contract scope and specifications; job site safety and security; and Power Design’s values, policies and procedures. • Provide superior customer service, developing customer relationships on a regular basis. • Provide weekly status updates on warranty calls, small projects and service work, service tickets, labor requirements and material requirements. • Work as an HVAC Technician on a designated job site when not answering service calls or performing maintenance. • Perform other duties as assigned. Here’s What We’re Looking For • Skilled HVAC Technician with at least five years of service experience required; ten years of related experience preferred. • Proficient knowledge of the IECC, ICC, and ASHRAE Standards; local codes; and construction safety requirements • EPA Certified • OSHA 30 certification preferred. • Active Journeyman or Master’s HVAC license preferred • Experience with office software required. Power generation requires lots of piping, so if you have 3 plus years in piping design and interested in working on a wide variety of projects and will work in our division office in Lenexa Kansas, we would love to talk with you. We have a large number of projects currently in progress and a great backlog of work and are looking for designers to join our team that have particular interest in learning and growing in the Power Generation field. In this role you will be developing detailed piping and mechanical equipment and systems designs, layouts and 3D models for Power generation and we are open to individuals with experience outside of power (carbon capture plants, water/wastewater, chemical, oil and gas or other related industrial facilities. You could be involved in designing any or all of the following: steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate systems, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, or air and gas systems. District Overview Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. Our engineering teams bring power projects to life across North America in the following areas: • Gas-fired generation • Power delivery • Environmental retrofits • Renewables, Carbon Capture and new technology • Water/wastewater Location This postion is located in Charlotte, NC, initially working remotely and later a hybrid schedule from our Charlotte office. We are not relocating to Charlotte and looking for only local candidates in this area. Responsibilities • Draft sketches, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), plans, sections and details, drawings, equipment layout, and design/model in 3D for power plant systems which could include: steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, rotating equipment (generators) systems, and Balance of plant systems (compressed air and gas systems, service water, HVAC). Designs include equipment layout and complete mechanical systems, including checking interferences and constructability. • Utilize Smartplant 3D for 3D modeling of piping and mechanical components for power generation projects. Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards. • Adhere to schedules and work assignments to ensure successful project completion. • Coordinate with other drafters, designers and other team members assigned to a project or task, and support work progress and results. • Seek feedback and use it effectively. Works efficiently as an individual contributor as well as part of a larger design team. • Identify changes in the scope of work during a small project and produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule. • Take the initiative to meet or exceed the quality and expected outcome requirements of internal and external customers. • Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project development. #LI-JB1 Qualifications • 3 to 10 years' related mechanical systems and piping design experience in Power generation or similar Industrial plants with balance of plant systems and above/below ground piping (co-gen, chemical plants, for example), performing design functions as outlined above • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Drafting and Design or related discipline preferred. Will consider candidates without degree, that have the related experience equivalent to a degree • Proficient in basic computer programs including MS Word and Excel, web browsing and e-mail programs • 3D Modeling of piping/equipment is required. If you have Power plant design, then experience with any of these tools will be considered: Smartplant3D, AutoCAD 3D, CADWORX, PDMS, PDS, AVEVA, or REVIT is acceptable). • If you have no power plant design modeling experience, then you must have 3D modeling experience, using Smartplant3D (SP3D). • Experience using Navisworks or similar program for checking interferences and constructability is required.
