After an initial training period (M-F, 8am – 4pm), the work schedule will follow a 12-hour day/night rotation in accordance with Corning’s production shift schedule. Primary Responsibilities: • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide array of automation system in the warehouse area including, mini load AS/RS cranes, Fanuc robots, various roller conveyors, and automation devices. • Work with the operations team to ensure all processes and equipment are running smoothly and any issues are resolved in a timely manner. • Work with the engineering team on advanced support issues or process improvement projects. • Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed thoroughly. Day to Day Responsibilities: • Develop understanding of process and equipment functions in area of responsibility • Will require the majority of time be spent on the floor working on equipment. • Provide mechanical discipline support in the construction, installation, debug, and startup of equipment and automated systems including hands-on to the point of turnover to operations at both domestic and international manufacturing sites. • Develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve project goals without sacrificing safety, intellectual property, or quality. • Analyze and correct equipment installation practices to improve efficiencies, specifically directed toward enhancing installation schedules. • Supervise and provide direction to internal or contract engineering techs, internal maintenance, and outside contract trades during all aspects of equipment installation and conversion such as demolition, construction, installation, testing, and debug of production equipment. • Perform hands-on third-level troubleshooting support, directing engineering techs and trades as necessary to replace defective components and execute changes to solve equipment/process issues. • Provide training to internal or contract engineering techs, internal maintenance, and outside contract trades on new equipment installation procedures as required for successful execution of installation activities. • Review, “redline”, and modify existing installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, machine specs, schedules, and complete drawing packages including follow-up with drafting services. • Re-design mechanical components to reduce installation cost, solve equipment interferences, and correct inadequate designs. • Provide direction to technicians to create and modify existing documentation to complete drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specs of production equipment. • Procure and expedite materials needed to build or install new or modified equipment. • Assess condition and usability of existing equipment for fit and function with new installation plans. Travel Requirements: • Typical travel can range from a few days to a few weeks during the project initiation phase. Travel during design, development and/or deployment phases are greatly impacted by where the projects are located and typically range from 3-9 months but can extend to 1+ years. • Travel will be required to Corning Optical Fiber and Cable Manufacturing sites in North Carolina and overseas sites in India, China, and Europe.
