Mechanical Maintenance Apprentice

About the position Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking Mechanical Maintenance Apprentices for an 18-month state-certified training program at their Coshocton, Ohio plant. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience and classroom training, ultimately obtaining a mechanical maintenance journeyman license upon successful completion of the program. Responsibilities • Attend 600+ hours of classroom training along with on-the-job training during the 18 month program • Maintain operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment • May work alone or assist in performing mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance as required • Be responsive to maintenance calls and troubleshoot mechanical issues as they occur • Provide assistance with operating functions as necessary • Other duties as assigned Requirements • Meet minimum assessment standards to be enrolled in a state certified mechanical maintenance apprenticeship program • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality • Ability to read, understand, and follow operating instructions and procedure manuals • Effective communication (verbal and written), math and measurement skills • Willingness and availability to work rotating shifts 24 hours a day, seven days a week including holidays Nice-to-haves • 2+ years of relevant work experience • Solid understanding of mechanical maintenance principles Benefits • Top pay with variable compensation opportunity • Health insurance • Retirement plan • Education assistance • Paid time off

Job Description Summary: Evaluates, develops, designs and implements new and existing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, systems and facility projects. Provides engineering support to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems. Works closely with Area Managers on process improvements and equipment reliability. Oversees the work of vendors and contractors in the completion of work. Utilizes AutoCAD and Inventor design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks. Reviews assigned projects to define, design, develop and deploy the most workable solution and minimizing resource requirements. • Designs and drafts detail drawing or sketch for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine shop. • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components, assemblies or systems, industrial equipment, machinery, power equipment, servosystems, machine tools and measuring instruments. • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control. • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications. • Records test procedures and results, numerical and geographical data and recommendations for changes in product or test method. • Improves work methods and procedures to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. • Troubleshoots and works with Maintenance to resolve problems. • Works within budget constraints. • Observes all Company, housekeeping, safety and plant policies and procedures. • Has strong written, oral, communication and facilitation skills. • Fosters a focus of continuous improvement. • Keeps Engineering Manager informed of problems and important matters as they arise.
