The Mechanical Test Technician is responsible for setting up, conducting and documenting a variety of strength, conditioning, and durability tests on restraint systems and components according to the applicable standards and established procedures. LOCATION: Westfield, IN HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm RESPONSIBILITIES: • Process internal/external customer test requests. • Summarize and report test results. • Develop new tests and test fixtures as required. • Assist with customer visits as requested. • Understand and become proficient with all facets of mechanical test machine operation. This includes operating and programing of mechanical, hydraulic, electronic, and data acquisition systems. • Become familiar with all internal test procedures, applicable domestic and foreign restraint performance standards, and associated test methods to be utilized in compliance testing. • Work with appropriate engineering personnel to ensure parameters identified in test requests are effectively tested and documented. • Ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information with internal or external customers. • Write reports that are worded appropriately, preventing the casting of doubt on IMMI product, development, and testing efforts. • Accurately record and maintain all test data collected from in-process testing in the appropriate quality assurance databases. • Analyze and evaluate modes of failure or possible causes of failure as the result of routine or special tests. This should include visual observations as well as documenting and identifying unusual or unique failure modes. • Notify appropriate personnel (Engineering, Quality Assurance) if any unusual trends are identified or if any non-conformances are discovered while performing testing. • Maintain a work setting that promotes teamwork and a positive working environment. • All other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Have a high degree of mechanical comprehension and understanding of mechanical principles. • A proficiency in the use of computer software for data acquisition, data analysis, equipment control, and programming. • Ability to effectively lead others • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and able to maneuver around equipment. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail • Ability to understand products; features, drawings, application, qualifications, and functions. • Must comply with legal and corporate responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT DEMANDS: • This work is deadline-oriented, requires multitasking, fluctuating work schedule, and flexibility within the workday. • Frequent use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary. • Requires the ability for close vision, distance vision and depth perception. • Requires working and interacting with others, both in person and through phone, electronic, and written correspondence, and the ability to listen effectively, communicate clearly, maintain attention to detail, and perform focused work. • This position requires working with dirt/dust and noise. The use of a variety of proper PPE is required to provide a safe working environment. • This position requires working with various temperature conditions.
