Quality Engineer

Role: Quality Engineer Location: Muncie, Indiana 47302 MUST HAVE : Good amount of experience with heavy steel metal fabrication and welding NICE TO HAVE: Certified welding inspector (CWI) certification Candidates that have the highlighted experience above will be shortlisted to the end client quicker. Core Responsibilities • Supplier Collaboration • Partner closely with suppliers to ensure the production of high-quality parts. • Conduct multi-stage inspections at supplier sites to verify compliance with specifications. • Support and update project processes as needed. • Address and resolve technical queries from suppliers (e.g., materials, dimensions, coatings). • Supplier Audits • Perform audits for onboarding new suppliers to ensure they meet quality standards. • Scope of Role • This is a purely technical role with no involvement in purchase orders, quotations, or payments or lifting on the floor. ME II’s typically support one value stream and have demonstrated a thirst for learning and expanded responsibility. • Develop design alternatives for products that are in production and implement via the MCR process; • Communicate bills of material, production routings, build documentation and tooling requirements as needed; • Provide Liaison support including initiating and completing MCR documentation; • Provide feedback to design engineering for manufacturing issues and work collaboratively to resolve; • Process MCRs (Manufacturing Change Requests) into ERP-LN; • Make print changes and issue to Drafting for updating; • Work with Program Teams to complete product launches on schedule and participate on model year teams; • Provide cost analysis of product and process alternatives; • Participate in / conduct daily production feedback meetings; • Provide technical process support to associates; • Trouble shoot Locomotive Mechanical and Electrical problems as applicable (Controls and Designs that don’t work; Trouble shooting wiring, circuitry or mechanical failures); • Assist in the establishment of process and assembly sequencing (process flow chart) for new programs; • Produce & maintain layouts for the area; • Maintain control of visual and written routings, monitoring content integrity and owning change log; • Assist in developing plant and process layout for new orders and plant launches; • Write process specifications and make recommendations regarding ergonomic improvements; • Develop action plans which include process optimization to lower cycle times and scrap; • Lead in the development of capital needs for area improvement; • Look for and pursue new technologies which will improve areas of responsibilities; • Lead Manufacturing’s interest in design development phases including Open plan management to ensure Manufacture feasibility (DFM) on new orders with the intent of reducing cycle time and improving efficiency; • Develop and maintain PFMEA documentation; • Simulate continuous improvement processes using KAIZEN approach, Six Sigma, 6S and other methods; • Develop plant and process layout for new orders; • Be capable to perform computer simulations of manufacturing operations; • Perform cost analysis of product and process alternatives; • Write specifications for manufacturing equipment and make recommendations for equipment procurement; • Work with Program Teams to complete product launches on schedule; • Monitor assembly equipment through production start-up; • Monitor and audit manufacturing best practices and standards in the plant; • Develop specifications for manufacturing equipment and recommendations for equipment procurement; • Attend training courses and other activities as requested; • Model PRS values in carrying out responsibilities. Education / Training • Bachelors degree in Engineering with specialization in mechanical, electronic or electrical engineering. Qualifications and Experience Required: • Minimum 3 years of related engineering work in a manufacturing company; • Product design experience; • Thorough knowledge in one or morel areas of: Electrical assembly/wiring/circuitry, and mechanical assembly processes; • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with colleagues, production team members, suppliers, external contractors, other company locations; • Experience working with others on a manufacturing shop floor; • Lean manufacturing experience; • Ability to Read blueprints and electrical schematics. Preferred: • Professional Engineering Designation; • Process simulation software, AutoCad, Unigraphics, solid edge abilities; • Work background in low volume highly, engineered product environment strongly preferred; • Six Sigma methodology training green belt or black belt certification; • Familiarity with some MRP systems especially SAP; • Knowledge of Association of American Railroad and Federal Railroad Administration regulations, specifications, practices; • Locomotive Product knowledge. Process Engineer

Overview This position will be responsible for project development and implementation. Qualified candidate must be a self-starter with proven project management skills. Duties will include, but not be limited to: Overseeing outside contractors in the completion of environmental, facility, and process improvement projects, in addition to managing projects from conception through completion. Successful candidates will possess the ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds, skills, and education levels to complete projects in an efficient and organized manner. Responsibilities • Responsible for preparation of project cost quotes and managing projects within budget requirements. • Ability to create timelines and manage projects according to set constraints. • Execute various system and equipment upgrade projects from conceptualization to start up. • Make oral and develop written presentations to provide information to Management. • Develop project scope, project justifications, and project requirements. • Complete all required paperwork to establish funding for capital projects. • Create capital budgets for future projects. • Create Scope of Work documents. • Additional responsibilities as needed to support the team and company goals. Qualifications Education, Experience, Certifications • Four-year Engineering degree required. Electrical Engineer preferred. • Three years manufacturing experience in an engineering or project management role, preferably in a Metal Processing Industry. • Experience with Toyota Production Systems, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma Certification a plus. • Furnace experience a plus. • Environmental Controls experience a plus. • Allen Bradley controls experience a plus.
